The Army is an enormously regimented, process-driven organization. Racial and gender bias is the norm, hiring processes are written to favor white males, and working within the "boys club" network is an absolute requirement. Even within these constructs, the Army provides valuable mentoring, education and training opportunities, with numerous career development assignments available. The glass ceiling is very real, so don't get frustrated if you are a woman or a minority trying to break through into a senior leadership role - it will take a very long time to get promoted. Men tend to enjoy lavish career opportunities and fast promotions.
