Great coworkers, great benefits, meager pay, no loyalty to workers
Teller (Former Employee) – Buffalo, NY – February 20, 2018
My coworkers at M&T Bank have been the best I've had in my work experience and I desperately wish I could take them with me wherever I go. The benefits are great, too, especially for women. Three months of maternity leave with full pay, after one year of service? Amazing. I wish more workplaces were as progressive with their benefits. However, as with most workplaces, there are caveats.
M&T Bank is one of the lowest paying banks on the east coast. At the time I was a teller, about one year ago, you could make 50% more in any position at any other bank. After one year of service, my manager had to "fight" to get me a $0.20 raise when I could have gone to KeyBank or Bank of America and make $5 more in the same position.
M&T Bank does not value their most experienced employees. I watched as several of my overqualified coworkers were overlooked for better-paying positions in favor of young, college-grads with zero work experience. You might say, "Well, they must not have a degree." My supervisor who is 20 years my senior graduated last year with a degree in a related field. She desperately wants to stay with M&T but, despite her efforts, she has yet to be promoted or change positions.
