Good employer with good growth, but with downsides.
Assistant Terminal Manager (Former Employee) – Joliet, IL – March 28, 2016
A good place to work with exceptions:
-Lack of communication, from the top down, i.e. Unable to give an employee a direct answer to specific questions because no one really knows the answer, or the answer has not been provided to direct Supervisor/Manager.
-Huge growth has shown cracks in the company, i.e. They are struggling to define real and actual company policies, as there are none, other than the most basic guidelines. Often times, situations are judged/determined on an individual basis, with each outcome varying drastically, instead of there being a policy put in place that would automatically determine the outcome of said situation(s).
-Pay structure out of whack for drivers, i.e. No annual review or raises (for Management either). Some drivers making more simply based on the fact that they whined and complained to anyone that would listen in order to get a bump in pay, while others do same amount of work, or more, for less pay (but still a fair, living wage).
-Nepotism: Nepotism can occur within organizations, when a person is employed due to their familial ties. It is generally seen as unethical, both on the part of the employer and employee.
Training at all levels, (from Driver positions to Management roles and responsibilities), mediocre at best.
Company currently going through ownership and structural changes. Basically going from a "Mom and Pop" shop, where individuals matter, to a medium to large, nationwide company; less individuality, multiple owners.
Local routes, decent pay, stress safety, large customer base, multiple divisions.
Change Healthcare plans yearly, lack of communication, need structured training. Often times the animals run the zoo.
