Position Summary
The Axiom Assistant Counsel will be responsible for providing legal and general support across a wide range of subject matter and tasks, as well as supporting Counsel with a significant amount of detailed organizational and administrative functions.
The applicant must be comfortable multi-tasking and independently organizing and managing work, switch tasks effectively, apply themselves efficiently within the context of the diverse legal, business, and administrative needs of a fast-paced, growth-stage company, and should be brimming with a desire to play a consequential role in human society’s evolution.
The ideal candidate would be graduating or a recent graduate of a top Texas law school and must be admitted to the Bar or sitting for the Bar in 2019, in which case long-term employment will be contingent upon induction to the Bar before the end of 2019.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned, as necessary, in the course of the organization’s ongoing operations):
- Support company requirements for the review of legal and business documentation to ensure they meet corporate guidelines, and coordinate regarding any issues or questions raised by such documents;
- Provide aid in processing of NDAs, certain contracts, administrative materials, HR materials, and other similar tasks;
- Provide upkeep on internal digital document management and filing databases;
- Contribute to the ongoing development of corporate administrative and compliance materials;
- Participate in business and strategic discussions, research and planning processes;
- Consult across functional teams within the organization when necessary to collect information and coordinate internal efforts;
- Identify appropriate areas for expansion of responsibilities over time and work with leadership to manage addition of such subject matter;
- Work will be largely performed in an office environment but may occasionally involve travel;
- The position will require, as needs arise, work after-hours or on weekends, and will involve extended hours in support of certain key deadlines.
Qualifications
- Education and/or Experience
- Top graduate from a Tier 1 JD program or a top-five Texas law program
- Track record of academic and professional excellence supported by references;
- Admitted to the practice of law (or offer contingent upon pending admission to practice);
- Legal Clinic participation, relevant post-undergrad internships, post-JD work, or equivalent hands-on firm, non-profit, or in-house experience strongly preferred.
- Location in Houston or Texas preferred.

- Strong oral and written communication skills;
- Professional business demeanor and ability to interface with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including from government and private industry;
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills, as well as careful attention to detail and follow-through skills;
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize workload efficiently and meet strict deadlines for completing tasks/assignments;
- Demonstrated good judgment and the ability to deal with confidential and sensitive issues;
- Highly proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, internet software and social media;
- Some level of personal knowledge of or interest in contemporary space law and policy issues is a plus
