HVAC/Refrigeration Service Technician

Job Summary

Fazio Mechanical Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced HVAC/Refrigeration Service Technician to join our team. In this role, you will work independently in the field as a representative of Fazio, providing high-quality service, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of commercial refrigeration and HVAC systems.

Our Service Technicians primarily support supermarket and commercial refrigeration customers and work with a variety of equipment, including parallel rack systems, single systems, display cases, walk-in coolers and freezers, electrical and mechanical components, and electronic/microprocessor control systems.

The ideal candidate is an experienced refrigeration professional who takes pride in their work, prioritizes safety and customer service, and can effectively diagnose and resolve equipment issues in a fast-paced service environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair commercial refrigeration and HVAC systems.
• Service supermarket refrigeration equipment, including parallel rack systems, single systems, display cases, walk-in coolers and freezers, condensers, evaporators, and associated components.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and electronic control system issues.
• Perform preventive and routine maintenance in accordance with customer and manufacturer requirements.
• Perform refrigerant leak detection, repairs, documentation, and follow-up procedures in accordance with applicable regulations and company procedures.
• Diagnose system performance issues and determine appropriate repairs or corrective actions.
• Respond to service calls in a timely and professional manner.
• Communicate effectively with customers, dispatchers, supervisors, and other technicians regarding equipment conditions, repairs, and recommendations.
• Provide knowledgeable, courteous, and professional service while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
• Accurately complete service documentation, work orders, and required electronic records.
• Follow Fazio safety policies and procedures, including applicable electrical safety, lockout/tagout, fall protection, refrigerant handling, and personal protective equipment requirements.
• Maintain company tools, equipment, and assigned service vehicle in a clean, organized, and professional condition.
• Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to emergency service needs as required.
• Work collaboratively with other technicians and departments when additional support is needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Commitment to following company safety policies and applicable regulatory requirements.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• EPA Section 608 Certification required.
• Five (5) or more years of commercial/supermarket refrigeration experience preferred.
• Experience servicing and troubleshooting supermarket rack refrigeration systems required.
• Experience with refrigeration energy management and control systems such as Emerson/CPC, Danfoss, and Novar preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of refrigeration electrical and mechanical systems.
• Experience troubleshooting electrical controls, compressors, condensers, evaporators, cases, walk-in systems, and related refrigeration components.
• CO₂/transcritical refrigeration experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the physical requirements necessary to complete commercial refrigeration service work safely and effectively. This includes the ability to:

• Regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, and carry materials or equipment.
• Climb ladders and access rooftops, mechanical rooms, equipment rooms, and other service locations.
• Work in refrigerated and freezer environments and in varying indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
• Work around operating mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
• Safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and other equipment required to perform assigned work.
• Perform work in environments where noise levels and temperatures may vary.

Work Environment

This is a field-based position requiring travel to customer locations throughout the technician's assigned service area. Technicians may work in supermarkets, mechanical rooms, rooftops, refrigerated spaces, warehouses, and other commercial environments. The position may require work during evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations based on customer and operational needs.
