Overview

The Injection Stretch Blow Molding Process Technician / Mold Setter is responsible for mold changes, machine setup, process optimization, troubleshooting, and maintaining safe and efficient production. This position plays a critical role in maximizing machine uptime, reducing scrap, and ensuring high-quality products are produced consistently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complete mold changes on ISBM equipment.
  • Install, remove, and maintain molds, hot runners, neck rings, and associated tooling.
  • Set up machines for production according to established process parameters.
  • Start up new jobs and optimize processing conditions to achieve cycle time and quality targets.
  • Troubleshoot molding, heating, blowing, and cooling issues.
  • Adjust machine parameters to minimize scrap and improve efficiency.
  • Perform color changes and material changeovers.
  • Verify product quality during startup and throughout production.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities on molds and auxiliary equipment.
  • Diagnose equipment issues and work closely with maintenance when repairs are required.
  • Train machine operators on startup procedures and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate setup documentation and process sheets.
  • Follow all safety, GMP, and housekeeping requirements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on OEE, cycle time reduction, and process stability.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of Injection Stretch Blow Molding experience preferred.
  • Experience with Nissei, Aoki, Sidel SBO, Krones Contiform, or similar ISBM equipment is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of PET processing and resin drying requirements.
  • Experience performing complete mold changes independently.
  • Ability to troubleshoot processing defects including:
  • Pearlescence
  • Haze
  • Short shots
  • Flash
  • Paneling
  • Gate defects
  • Stretch marks
  • Bottle dimensional issues
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and process documentation.
  • Mechanical aptitude with basic electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic knowledge.
  • Ability to safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and lifting equipment.
  • Willingness to work overtime and rotating shifts as needed.

Preferred Skills

  • Scientific molding or structured process development experience.
  • Familiarity with Husky preforms and PET packaging.
  • Knowledge of robotic automation and downstream packaging equipment.
  • Experience with leak testers, vision inspection systems, and quality measurement equipment.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand, bend, kneel, and climb throughout the shift.
  • Work safely around moving machinery and elevated temperatures.
