Job Description

The Makerspace Associate performs tasks assigned by management to support the daily operation of the makerspace. This role focuses on assisting with equipment use, maintaining a clean and safe workspace, and supporting members and classes. Associates follow instructions from the Makerspace Manager and senior staff. Tasks include assisting users with equipment, supporting workshops, maintaining inventory, and helping keep the workspace organized and operational. The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for long periods, and working evenings and weekends as scheduled.

Responsibilities

Equipment Support

  • Assist members with operation of makerspace equipment as directed
  • Help users with basic software and project setup
  • Perform tasks assigned for equipment setup and shutdown
  • Report equipment issues to management
  • Follow routine maintenance duties assigned to you by management

Safety & Lab Maintenance

  • Follow all safety procedures and instructions from management
  • Ensure users are following safety guidelines
  • Keep work areas clean and organized
  • Assist with restocking and basic inventory tasks
  • Help maintain a safe and orderly workspace

Daily Operations Support

  • Complete assigned tasks from the Makerspace Manager
  • Assist with opening, closing, and daily setup procedures
  • Support preparation of equipment and materials for classes
  • Help maintain consistent workflow in the makerspace

Customer Assistance

  • Assist patrons as directed by management
  • Provide basic help with equipment and workspace use
  • Maintain a professional and helpful attitude
  • Communicate questions or issues to senior staff

Program Support

  • Assist instructors and staff during classes and workshops
  • Help set up and break down program spaces
  • Follow direction during all programming activities

Necessary Qualifications

  • Willingness to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks
  • Ability to work in a structured, team-based environment
  • Knowledge in makerspace tools, digital design or fabrication environments preferred
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to follow safety procedures at all times
  • Reliability and punctuality

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Ability to work around machinery and fabrication tools
  • Ability to bend, reach, and move throughout the workspace

Schedule Requirements

  • Availability evenings, weekends, and scheduled programming hours
  • Flexible schedule based on makerspace needs

Other Helpful Experience

  • Workshop or fabrication environment exposure
  • Retail or customer service experience
  • Experience with tools like 3D printers or laser cutters

Pay: $31,200.00 - $37,000.00 per year
