Job introduction:
The Q&I Modernization Platform within in USRM Product Property & Specialty Tech is where we design, build, and evolve modern, best-in-class Platform software solutions for Personal Lines insurance products to support the Independent Agent experience and Sales & Service process.
The team is looking to hire a Principal Software Engineer, with a focus on AWS technologies, who will apply their talent in a hybrid agile environment that has the creative and technical passion of a start-up and the full backing and comprehensive benefits of a Fortune 100 company.
This is a fast-paced role where you’ll rapidly iterate and deliver on software, while bringing your talents to the table as a strategic shaper of our success. You will be working in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment that values speed and quality, with a strong focus on driving continuous improvement.
We encourage you to apply and bring your expertise if you’re a:
- Technical problem solver: Going far beyond simply developing error-free source code, test scripts, components and system architectures, you’ll document and build deployment guides aimed at maintaining robust, relevant software
- Customer-centric engineer: Putting clients’ needs first, you’ll translate customer requirements into technical applications and support the implementation of new software
- Motivated mentor: Exercise your technical chops while coaching and collaborating with junior software engineers.
- Forward thinker: Merely fixing a problem isn’t enough – using your proactive mindset and initiative, you’ll also identify opportunities to enhance performance, quality and efficiency
- Bachelor’s degree in technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 8+ years of experience delivering software in large, distributed technical ecosystems using agile practices such as Scrum, Kanban, or XP.
- Proficient with Java, Spring Boot, REST, Kafka, Kubernetes, microservices, testing concepts & frameworks, DevOps tools, IBM tools and frameworks (BPM), and CI/CD pipelines such as Bamboo/GitHub Actions/Jenkins.
- Highly competitive candidates will additionally possess experience with GraphQL, and pair programming techniques.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with experience writing technical documentation and explaining technical concepts to audiences of varied roles and backgrounds.
- Hands-on involvement with layered systems architectures, designs and shared software concepts
- Familiarity with functional and system integration testing
- A collaborative, adaptable working style, demonstrated initiative, and the ability to balance your time and efforts across multiple priorities.
- A thorough grasp of technology concepts, business operations, design and development tools, DevOps, system architecture and technical standards.
