Troubleshooting: License and Certification Check
This article helps you fix common issues with the license and certification check on Indeed.
Understanding your application status (when you request a third-party credential check)
When you choose the optional third-party check option with Checkr, you can track your status in the My Jobs tab of your account.
Here's what those statuses mean:
- Application pending (credential verification in progress)
- Checkr is still looking up your license or certification details.
- This usually takes a few minutes, but it can take up to 3 days.
- Your application will be delivered to the employer once the check is complete.
- Submitted (credential verified)
- Checkr returned Results Found.
- The employer received your application with the uploaded document and your verification result.
- Submitted (unable to verify your credential)
- You'll get the note Unable to verify your credential when:
- A check doesn't return a Results Found status
- Checkr returns Further Review Required
- A system error occurs
- The employer received your application with only the uploaded document.
Understanding your Checkr result: what does each status mean?
Your status in My Jobs may show Unable to verify your credentials. In this case, review your Checkr verification result for specific details.
When you choose third-party verification, Checkr generates a verification result.
Checkr status: Results Found
- What it means:
- The check matched your details to an active record at the issuing source
- What happens to your application:
- Delivered to the employer, including your uploaded document and the Checkr verification result
Checkr status: Further Review Required
- What it means:
- The check couldn't find a matching active record at the issuing source
- This can happen for a few reasons, such as:
- A temporary system interruption
- A typo in your information
- The current status listed by the source
- What happens to your application:
- Delivered to the employer with only your uploaded document
Why a verification result may not be available
- What it means:
- Sometimes, your My Jobs status may show Unable to verify your credential
- The View Checkr verification result link isn't available
- This can happen for a few reasons, like a technical system error, a timeout, or an outage
- What happens to your application:
- Delivered to the employer with only your uploaded document
- Employers aren't informed that an error occurred or that a check was attempted
Privacy protection
- Employers are never shown Unable to verify your credential, or Further Review Required.
- They're not told that you requested a third-party verification.
How to request a correction with Checkr
If you think there's an error in your verification result, you can ask Checkr to correct it:
- Go to My Jobs and find your application.
- Choose View credential information, then View my verification result.
- Review your details to check what's wrong. For example, a wrong license number or state.
- Select Request a Correction to submit a request on Checkr's website.
Checkr usually reviews these requests within 7 days, but it can take longer.
Troubleshooting
Issue: I can't find my application in My Jobs
Solution: Make sure you're signed in with the same email you used when you applied. If you have more than one email, try signing out and signing back in with the other one.
Issue: My name on Indeed is different from the name on my license.
Solution: Because the check looks for an exact match, a name difference might cause a Further Review Required status. Use the exact name that appears on your license when applying.
Issue: The check is taking too long or appears to be stuck.
Solution: Most verifications are complete within a few minutes. However, some can take up to three business days. Contact Indeed support if you didn't get a Submitted status after three business days from the time you applied. You'll find the steps below.
Issue: The job says a license is required, but I didn't get a license step.
Solution: Not all employers use Indeed to verify licenses. Many prefer to review your paperwork themselves during an interview or onboarding process. If you didn't get a prompt, you don't need to do anything.
Issue: My status in My Jobs says 'Unable to verify your credential’.
Solution: This status appears whenever a third-party check can't return a Results Found. This happens if:
- Checkr returns Further Review Required
- The verification timed out
- A system outage occurred
If a verification result was generated, you can open it in My Jobs to check specific details.
Issue: My verification results, or the correction request link, don't work.
Solution: Sign in to My Jobs and open your application from the Applied tab to find the link. If it still does not work, contact Indeed support. You'll find the steps below.
Issue: I never received a verification result.
Solution: Check the My Jobs tab first to review your current application status. If your check is still processing, the link is not yet ready. You'll only get a verification result link after Checkr has:
- Finished looking up your details, and
- Produced a verification result
Checkr won't generate a verification result if it can't run the check. This could be due to a technical error, a timeout, or a system outage. In this case, your application is sent to the employer with only your uploaded document.
Contact Indeed support if you still have questions. You'll find the steps below.
Issue: Can the employer see whether a verification result shows 'Further Review Required' or if there was an error?
Solution: No. Employers see third-party verification details only if the result is Results Found. The employer receives only your self-uploaded document if:
- Your check resulted in Further Review Required
- A verification result was not available due to an error
The employer isn't told that a third-party check was attempted.
Issue: I can't remember the email address I used for Checkr.
Solution: Contact Indeed support. You'll find the steps below.
