Indeed compensated this small business professional for sharing their Indeed hiring story.

An education nonprofit in Detroit needed to hire various roles to help families with young children become school-ready. To double its number of community education hubs from 12 to 24 by 2024, the company’s co-founder and CEO turned to Indeed to hire 75% of its staff.

Brilliant Detroit is a nonprofit organization that helps families with young children succeed. They create “kid success” neighborhoods where they provide year-round support out of homes in high-need areas in Detroit. These vibrant community hubs offer free programs and activities like playgroups, dance lessons, nutrition courses, tutoring and parenting classes. These initiatives promote school readiness, health and stability and to build a strong sense of community.

“We exist to assure that kids and families have everything they need in the middle of neighborhoods, belly to eight, in education, health and family support,” explains Cindy Eggleton, co-founder and CEO.

As a first-generation high school graduate who grew up in poverty, Cindy knows just how powerful education and community support are. Through her work with Brilliant Detroit, she aims to enhance children’s reading skills, provide valuable resources to parents and caregivers, and offer opportunities for people to connect as neighbors.

As of 2023, 18 Brilliant Detroit communities are committed, with 12 open locations and plans to expand to 24 sites by 2024.

Challenge: Low quantity and quality of candidates

To support their mission, Cindy and the Brilliant Detroit team needed to hire a wide range of roles. “Recruiting for us should be extraordinarily hard with the multiple types of roles that we need,” explains Cindy. “We have community organizers, we have childcare workers, we have people doing fundraising. The range is really quite large.”

In addition, the team was looking for candidates with strong relationship-building skills such as emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills and empathy, and who shared a belief in their mission. “Our people drive Brilliant Detroit. There is no question about it,” says Cindy. “Our work is very much based on relationships and we need the right people with the right skills.”

However, they needed help finding the quantity and quality of candidates they were looking for. That’s when Cindy turned to Indeed.

"About 75% of our hires come from the Indeed platform. "

Solution: Casting a wider net with Sponsored Jobs

Cindy and the Brilliant Detroit team use Sponsored Jobs on Indeed to reach a high volume of quality candidates who may have never heard about the organization otherwise. “The biggest thing that I hear from our team is how easy [Sponsored Jobs] is to use and what a wide net it casts. At one time we had 18 roles on Indeed. That’s a lot of roles. And every one of them we received qualified candidates for,” says Cindy.

Sponsored Jobs on Indeed can help you fill more roles with more job post visibility. That’s because these jobs appear for longer in job seeker search results than non-sponsored jobs. In fact, Sponsored Jobs deliver 60% more applicants on average than non-sponsored jobs[1]. The best part? When you sponsor a job, you only pay for quality applications.*

Take it from Cindy: “The amount of qualified candidates we get from Indeed is unparalleled.”

*Not all jobs qualify for the PPA pricing model.

Results: 75% of hires made on Indeed

Brilliant Detroit has used Sponsored Jobs to fill 75% of their job openings on Indeed. Thanks to this partnership, the organization can continue to grow and explore ways to serve more communities on a national scale.

“We actually have consulted with people who have said ‘Look, your business model works. There’s no question about it. What you need is a method to get the right staff on board that will stay with you, that have the right competencies and also values,’” explains Cindy. “Indeed has provided that for us.”
