Job Summary

Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) in, OH, working night shifts to ensure the highest standards of patient safety and infection control. In this vital role, you will be responsible for sterilizing, processing, and managing medical instruments and equipment used in surgical procedures. Your expertise will help maintain a sterile environment, support surgical teams, and uphold rigorous infection prevention protocols. Duties

  • Perform decontamination, cleaning, sterilization, and packaging of surgical instruments and medical equipment using approved sterilization techniques.
  • Assemble and inspect sterile instrument sets, ensuring all items meet quality standards for safety and functionality.
  • Manage inventory levels of sterile supplies and medical instruments, including tracking usage and reordering stock as needed.
  • Reprocess endoscopes and other specialized medical devices following strict aseptic techniques and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of sterilization cycles, equipment maintenance, and inventory records to ensure compliance with infection control policies.
  • Adhere to healthcare infection prevention and control protocols, including proper handling of contaminated instruments and environmental cleaning procedures.
  • Support the sterilization of surgical tools by following detailed steps involving physiology knowledge, anatomy awareness, and medical terminology to ensure proper handling.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in sterile processing or medical instrument reprocessing within a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of sterilization methods for surgical instruments, endoscopes, and other medical devices.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to surgical procedures.
  • Proficiency in infection prevention management and aseptic technique to minimize contamination risks.
  • Ability to operate sterilization equipment safely and effectively while following strict procedural guidelines.

We are seeking an experienced Travel Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) for a 13-week contract at a leading academic medical center in Columbus, Ohio. This opportunity is ideal for professionals with extensive experience in sterile processing, surgical instrument reprocessing, and working in high-volume hospital environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate and disinfect surgical instruments.
  • Assemble and inspect instrument trays.
  • Prepare surgical case carts for procedures.
  • Perform steam sterilization and IUSS (Immediate Use Steam Sterilization).
  • Operate Sterrad sterilization systems.
  • Monitor biological and chemical sterilization indicators.
  • Reprocess flexible endoscopes.
  • Operate Medivator and Scope Buddy systems.
  • Process robotic, laparoscopic, orthopedic, trauma, vascular, cardiovascular, transplant, ENT, and ophthalmology instruments.
  • Track instruments using Censitrac.
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and quality.
  • Maintain sterile storage standards.
  • Support operating room teams with timely instrument availability.
  • Follow AAMI, AORN, infection prevention, and hospital policies.

Qualifications

  • CRCST (HSPA) or CBSPD Certification required.
  • Minimum 3 years of Sterile Processing Technician experience.
  • Previous travel assignment experience preferred.
  • Experience in a teaching hospital preferred.
  • Experience in a Level II Trauma Center preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Censitrac
  • Sterrad
  • Medivator
  • Scope Buddy
  • Flexible endoscope reprocessing
  • Steam sterilization
  • Surgical drills and powered equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
