In my role, I regularly meet with policymakers around the world, and they’re often asking about AI’s role in hiring, and how to approach it responsibly. This is something we think about extensively every day at Indeed.

Whether you are a job seeker taking the next step in your career, an employer looking for your next great hire, or  a policymaker evaluating standards for responsible hiring, trust guides connections we help create. That trust is built through clear policies, responsible practices, and transparency about how Indeed approaches user and platform safety.

To give our community full visibility into how we protect our platform, we’ve brought resources and information together in one place. The Indeed Safety Center provides a central destination to learn more about our approach to trust, safety, transparency, responsible AI, privacy, and security.

Supporting a Trusted Experience

Building a safe and relevant marketplace requires continuous effort, clear standards, and more visibility. Our approach focuses on four key pillars:

  • Clear standards: Developing and enforcing policies that maintain a safe, high-quality experience for everyone.
  • Active protection: Investing in technology and dedicated teams that identify and address content that violates our standards.
  • User empowerment: Providing tools and resources so users can easily report concerns and find information when they need it.
  • Transparency: Publishing regular transparency reports to show how we protect our platform.

As technology evolves and the world of work changes, we continually evaluate and strengthen our approach to help ensure Indeed remains a trusted place for job seekers and employers alike.

Our Approach to Responsible AI

The Safety Center also shares our approach to Responsible AI.

AI has the potential to help job seekers discover more relevant opportunities and help employers hire more efficiently, but we believe people, not AI, should remain at the center of hiring decisions.

Our approach to Responsible AI is guided by principles that prioritize people, fairness, transparency, privacy, and human oversight. We design AI to assist, not replace, human decision-making, evaluate our systems throughout their lifecycle with fairness in mind, and continuously monitor and improve our technology as it evolves. These principles help guide how we design, develop, deploy, and govern AI across our products:

  • AI should assist people, not replace human judgment.
  • People should understand when and how AI is being used.
  • AI should be designed, tested, monitored, and continuously improved.
  • Human oversight remains important.
  • Fairness and bias mitigation are ongoing priorities.
  • Privacy and security are built into development.
  • AI should create better outcomes for job seekers and employers.

As governments, employers, and technology companies work through the opportunities and challenges AI creates, transparency matters more than ever. We believe companies should be clear about the principles guiding their decisions and open about how those principles are put into practice.

Transparency in Practice

As technology continues to evolve, we believe companies should be transparent about the principles that guide their decisions and open about how those principles are put into practice.

The Indeed Safety Center brings together the policies, transparency reports, and resources that support this work, making it easier for job seekers, employers, policymakers, and other stakeholders to learn more about how we approach trust, transparency, and safety.
