Full job description
SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
OPERATIONS ENGINEER (STARLINK GROWTH)
One of the most ambitious missions that SpaceX has undertaken to date, Starlink is leveraging our experience in building rockets and spacecraft to deploy the world's most advanced broadband internet system and largest satellite constellation to provide fast, reliable internet to millions of users worldwide, connect humanity, and fund Mars colonization.
Starlink's Growth Business Operations team combines traditional planning and analysis with broader business decision-making and strategy, directly supporting SpaceX's leadership. Growth Business Operations is embedded in daily operations, supporting both near-term execution and long-term planning. Team members are expected to analyze data and provide recommendations and to lead cross-functional decision-making and implementation of the recommendations. Starlink Growth Business Operations is lean and dynamic, comprised of three subgroups: S&OP (Sales & Operations Planning), Customer Retention, and Analytics. We encourage rotation across subgroups for high performers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead initiatives to improve Starlink customer experience and products through technical analysis, cross-functional prioritization, and implementation
- Identify engineering and product defects in Starlink user experience; drive operational improvements to resolve
- Use end-user metrics to uncover drivers of key performance indicators such as customer lifetime value; drive improvements globally and across all hardware and services
- Develop, operationalize, and action on predictive models, identifying customer retention issues and opportunities as well as scoping and implementing changes (e.g., customer outreach campaigns and treatment, automation)
- Collaborate across departments (e.g., engineering, customer support, finance, legal, supply chain) to ensure data integrity and accurate reporting
- Design and execute A/B tests to validate engagement and customer retention improvements
- Provide leadership updates on performance, risks, and opportunities using quantitative and qualitative data
- Document and train on customer retention dashboards and tools; assist with troubleshooting
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, data science, physics, or other quantitative field
- 1+ years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, product management, operations, consulting, entrepreneurship, or venture capital
- 1+ years of experience in Python, SQL, programming, or industrial project management
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Evidence of exceptional ability, especially within an ambiguous environment
- Quantitative dual degree in engineering field and economics or business field and/or equivalent professional experience
- Demonstrated success driving tangible impact/influencing within a broader organization
- Excellent analytical skills (e.g., Python, SQL, R, Tableau, Power BI, Power Query, Looker, Microsoft Office applications, Excel modeling, database structures, or similar data manipulation tools etc.)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly with senior business leaders
- Extreme sense of urgency and ownership
- Bias toward action and automation
- Strong interpersonal skills (examples: leading a student organization or working successfully in teams)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work cross-functionally with different groups and teams
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with changing needs and requirements
- Ability to work independently and in a team, take initiative, and communicate effectively
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed
- Willingness to travel to customer sites, other SpaceX locations, and events as needed
ITAR REQUIREMENTS:
- To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
