Position Purpose
Is the artistic and communications channel advisor, participating in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of TVA’s public websites and electronic publications. Consults with internal clients to determine the appropriate communications channel needed to meet the project objectives based on content, audience, goals, and functionality.
Accountable for design and development of electronic publications and web site content, with a focus on visual style and superior user experience.
Collaborates with the Communications Consultants across Communications and other stakeholders, integrating electronic communication strategy into the planning process. Collaborates on content strategy planning and execution support, developing innovative media content across web, mobile and email platforms.
Principal Accountabilities
- Exhibits and promotes integrity, respect, and authenticity in all interactions internal and external to TVA Communications and in performance of assigned duties.
- Demonstrates strong collaboration, open-mindedness, and partnership with teammates within and outside of the TVA Communications organization.
- Enhances and protects the TVA reputation and brand; builds understanding and support for the agency’s long-term strategy and enterprise priorities.
- Responsible as primary contact to TVA’s Internet Services staff for discussions of design interface, user experience, and business issues.
- Responsible for the day-to-day aspects of design, development, and implementation of TVA’s public and internal Web sites.
- Provides direction to TVA contractors on infrastructure and design resulting in information and eBusiness solutions that support TVA’s critical success factors.
- Provides direct consultation and support to TVA business units on design and development issues, with a focus on using electronic media to expand audiences, drive brand awareness and reduce publication costs.
- Directs the work of various creative, content, design, and research contractors in the production of web related projects.
- Plans, executes and manages interactive electronic media (i.e. TVA.com), that meets TVA’s strategic mission, vision and business objectives.
- Manages, facilitates/designs, and implements TVA.com campaigns and day-to-day activities including curating relevant content to reach TVA stakeholders, collaborating on editorial content, and developing and expanding TVA’s brand presence and outreach efforts.
- Performs graphic design, including page layout, and presentations for both internal and external audiences.
- Assures adherence to web communications and corporate branding processes and policies of TVA communications projects.
- Collaborates with the Communications Consultants across Communications and other stakeholders, integrating electronic communication strategy into the planning process. Provide content, planning and execution support, developing innovative media content across web, mobile and email platforms.
- Responsible for frequently posting new content to the internet for online communities, video press releases, web articles and video blogs. Ensures proper online messaging and relevancy, consistency of messages across multiple networks, and continuous monitoring and coverage of all sites.
- Serves as a member of the Emergency Response Organization, and the Public Information organization in particular, in accordance with Emergency Plan procedures. Supports on-call rotation for after-hours needs. Additional assignments as needed.
Minimum Requirements
Education — Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, marketing, or a related field of study; or equivalent education, training & experience is required.
Experience — At least 5 years of professional experience, 3 years of digital design preferred, of experience in digital design & development of an interactive, user-focused Web presence in a corporate environment, including experience in design, development, and maintenance of a large corporate Internet web site with an emphasis on appearance and usability, or business equivalent.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities —
- Thorough understanding of core elements & fundamentals of building a website and how each decision impacts both scope/budget of the project.
- Understanding of communications technologies, computer applications, and technical engineering and how they support and enhance the design aspects of an Internet website. Must possess proven experience in color selection, composition, interface design, and typography.
- Keen understanding (demonstrated by portfolio website) of all elements of New Media production (lighting, composition, colorization, editing technique, encoding, sound design, graphical elements, etc.)
- Exceptional level of creativity, across a variety of disciplines (traditional, new & rich media).
- Excellent listening skills with the ability to quickly synthesize the essence of the visual communication need/objectives and translate it into a visual concept.
- Proactive, self-motivated and good instincts.
- In-depth knowledge of motion graphics, other rich-media techniques and emerging commnications technologies.
- Highly conceptual with the ability to pitch/sell creative ideas
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to wear multiple hats
- Requires attention to detail and the ability/temperament to manage multiple projects.
- Must be creative, resourceful, decisive, and highly productive self-starter who is comfortable with a high degree of responsibility.
