Responsibilities

• Safely operate vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and wheelchair-accessible vans in accordance with all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations.
• Provide courteous customer service by assisting passengers with boarding, alighting, and luggage or wheelchair assistance as needed.
• Maintain a thorough knowledge of school policies, child and senior care protocols, behavior management, and passenger discipline procedures to ensure a safe environment for all riders.
• Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and emergency stop procedures, ensuring passenger safety at all times.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to verify mechanical safety and cleanliness; report any issues promptly for maintenance.
• Respond quickly and effectively to traffic changes or route adjustments to ensure timely arrivals and departures.
• Communicate clearly with dispatchers, passengers, and team members using effective communication skills to coordinate routes and address concerns.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or transit bus operation preferred; experience working with children or seniors is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle type (e.g., CDL for commercial or school bus driving) with a clean driving record.
• Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, state and local commercial driving laws.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling luggage or mobility aids.
• Certification in first aid (CPR included), emergency response procedures for transportation, and defensive driving techniques required or willing to obtain upon hire.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to manage student discipline or behavior management effectively.
• Familiarity with school policy knowledge related to childcare or student safety is advantageous.
• Ability to respond swiftly to traffic changes and adapt routes accordingly while maintaining professionalism.
