MSIP focuses on the acquisition of private infrastructure assets, with the potential for value creation through active management, located primarily within OECD countries. MSIP utilizes the team’s global network of relationships to source proprietary investment opportunities and work closely with portfolio company management to identify and implement operational improvements and value creation initiatives. Such opportunities may include corporate carve-outs, privatizations, undermanaged assets, assets with the potential for growth and select greenfield assets. MSIP primarily focuses on power generation & utilities, energy transition infrastructure, transportation infrastructure, and digital infrastructure sectors. Since inception, MSIP has invested in 40 portfolio companies across four funds and holds over $17 billion in commitments across its four funds.
MSIP is seeking an experienced Associate to work closely with senior members of the MSIP team to evaluate new investment opportunities and support the management of existing portfolio companies. The experienced Associate will play a generalist role across MSIP's infrastructure investment verticals and will have meaningful responsibility throughout the investment lifecycle, including sourcing, diligence, execution, and portfolio management.
The role is intended for candidates who have transitioned from investment banking into private equity and are looking to continue building their investing career on the buy side.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on macroeconomic trends, infrastructure sectors, investment themes, and target assets.
- Build and maintain advanced financial models for valuation, transaction structuring, scenario analysis, and portfolio monitoring.
- Prepare investment memoranda, investment committee materials, and other presentations supporting investment decisions.
- Lead and coordinate due diligence workstreams with management teams, advisors, consultants, lenders, and other transaction counterparties.
- Evaluate prospective investment opportunities and assist in transaction execution from initial screening through closing.
- Monitor portfolio company performance, analyze operating and financial results, and support value creation initiatives.
- Assist in sourcing and origination efforts by maintaining industry relationships and tracking market developments.
Qualifications
- Approximately 4 years of relevant experience, including 2 years of investment banking experience and 2 years of private equity investing experience, preferably within infrastructure, energy, power, transportation, telecommunications, or related sectors.
- Strong financial modeling, valuation, and analytical capabilities.
- Experience executing complex transactions and conducting commercial, financial, and operational due diligence.
- Infrastructure sector experience is preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced investment environment.
- Superior attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present investment recommendations clearly and concisely.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, and eager to take on increasing levels of responsibility.
