    Job Description and Duties

    This position is located at the DMV Headquarters in Los Angeles.

    This Peace Officer position, subject to POST. requirements, serves in a law enforcement capacity and conducts comprehensive, confidential background investigations on both sworn and non-sworn candidates for the Division. Responsibilities include meeting with and interviewing applicants; verifying required documentation; and thoroughly researching, analyzing, and documenting their personal, employment, financial, academideducation, military, legal/criminal, and driving histories. The role also involves interviewing acquaintances, employers, neighbors, and other relevant sources. Additional duties include reviewing prior background investigations, conducting follow-up interviews to resolve discrepancies, reporting significant findings to supervisors, and preparing formal investigative background reports for management review; and performing other duties in accordance with California Penal Code section 830.3 as required.

    Applicants must pass a background investigation, and psychological and medical examinations in accordance with any State hiring restriction prior to hire. If you are interested in this position, you must submit to the address indicated below, the following:

    This position will be filled as one year Limited-Term, Full Time if the selected candidate needs to complete the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) requirements. Upon successful completion, the incumbent will be appointed as Permanent, Full Time. If the selected candidate has already met POST requirements through a basic academy, then they will be appointed Permanent, Full Time upon hire.

    The position(s) being advertised may be subject to allocation approval by the Human Resources Branch. Fingerprint/Criminal Record Clearance is required before hire. The Salary Range shown is the minimum and maximum for a full-time appointment. Moving and relocation expenses will not be reimbursed for this position.

    Department Information

    The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is a recognized leader in public service and has existed for over 100 years. The DMV is responsible for registering approximately 36 million vehicles in California, and serving 34 million driver license and identification card holders, collecting over $14 billion in annual revenue. The DMV also maintains and oversees many other functions. The DMV provides quality licensing and motor vehicle-related services in its field offices located throughout California and online at www.dmv.ca.gov
