York County's Veteran Service Office is taking job applications for an Administrative Assistant with an application deadline of Friday, July 26th, 2024. Working hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. Application and complete job posting may be obtained at our website www.yorkcounty.ne.gov.

Position Overview

Under general supervision of the Veterans Service Officer; schedules appointments, gives information to callers, and otherwise relieves official of clerical work and minor administrative and business detail by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Attaches appropriate file to veteran’s correspondence to be answered by Veterans Officer.
  • Composes and types routine correspondence; compiles and types statistical reports operating a computer.
  • Makes copies of all correspondence or other printed pertinent matter.
  • Prepares outgoing mail.
  • Update and maintain veteran files.
  • Greets public, ascertains nature of business, and conducts appropriate arrangements such as providing information, specific forms, and/or loan of medical equipment.
  • Maintain office in Veterans Officer absence.
  • May assist County Commissioners with clerical duties as needed.

Education and/or Experience

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Email; Google Calendar Contact Management systems; VetraSpec Database software; Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word Processing software.
