POSITION: Assistant Program Director SCHEDULE: Full-Time, 37.5 hours/week, 8a-3:30p LOCATION: Holyoke, MA (initial orientation and operational support in Agawam, MA with phased transition to Holyoke, MA.) PAY: $23/hour REPORTS TO: Program Director SUPERVISES: Program Staff

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Assistant Program Director supports the daily operations of assigned programs by providing direct care coverage, assisting with administrative and supervisory tasks, and helping ensure high-quality services for individuals supported by Baroco. This role partners closely with the Program Director and assumes site leadership responsibilities in their absence. In Day Habilitation programs, the Assistant Program Director may also serve as a Developmental Specialist.

This is a hands-on leadership role that blends direct service, staff support, and program oversight in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Care & Program Support

  • Provide direct care coverage during staff absences, following classroom schedules and supporting consumers with activities of daily living (ADLs), which may include lifting, feeding, and personal care.
  • Implement training programs in accordance with DHSPs/IPs and support skill development in both program and community settings.
  • Provide transportation for consumers using company vehicles, as applicable.
  • Intervene as needed in medical, behavioral, or other critical incidents, including restraints, and complete all required documentation.

Leadership & Site Coverage

  • Assume responsibility for site operations in the absence of the Program Director or Program Supervisor, as assigned.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with leadership regarding consumer, staff, or family issues that may impact program operations.
  • Support management by addressing staff and consumer concerns and escalating issues appropriately.

Consumer Advocacy & Service Management

  • Act as an advocate for appropriate consumer services and supports.
  • Coordinate services for assigned consumers, including writing DHSPs/IPs and maintaining required monthly, quarterly, and/or semi-annual reports per state regulations.
  • Participate in Individualized Team (IDT) meetings and reviews.
  • Serve as Human Rights Officer and advocate for consumer rights, as assigned.

Documentation, Compliance & Quality

  • Complete all required daily, weekly, and monthly documentation accurately and on time.
  • Assist with behavior program development, incident reporting, and documentation.
  • Report any suspected abuse or neglect immediately in accordance with state and organizational requirements.
  • Follow all Baroco policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including fire and safety regulations.

Staff Support & Development

  • Work collaboratively as part of a team with consumers, staff, and supervisors.
  • Assist with training new staff, mentoring team members, and supporting teaching methods and training materials.
  • Help monitor deadlines, program schedules, classroom observations, and overall program safety.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement per state regulations).

Experience

  • Extensive applicable experience in human services or a related field.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Skills & Requirements

  • Valid MA driver’s license with a motor vehicle record that meets insurance requirements.
  • Ability to complete and maintain all required annual trainings, including de-escalation and restraint training.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; bilingual skills preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, exercise sound judgment, and problem-solve effectively.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and positive working relationships with staff, consumers, families, and external partners.
  • Ability to complete delegated nursing-related tasks as assigned by an RN or Health Care Supervisor.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to assist consumers with ambulation, wheelchair transfers, and lifting up to 60 pounds.
  • Ability to respond to behavioral and medical emergencies, including physical intervention when required.
  • Work is primarily based within indoor settings and may include outdoor activities.
  • Exposure to typical program-related noise levels and environments.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ability to follow all Baroco safety policies, OSHA guidelines, and fire and safety regulations.
  • Commitment to performing duties in a safe manner and reporting safety concerns, abuse, or unlawful conduct immediately.
  • Selected applicants will be required to successfully pass all required state and federal background checks.
