Full job description
Heavy Trailer/Truck Mechanic
Local trucking company seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to service and repair our fleet of Class 8 semi-trucks and trailers.
95% trailer (chassis) repair work such as wheel ends, brakes, electrical, welding ETC.
Oil Changes and Preventative maintenance on trucks and Generators as needed.
Operate Mobile Service truck to perform repairs at our satellite yard.
Job Description:
- Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades.
- Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics
- Makes adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
- Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
- Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
- Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs in electronic based repair program.
- Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
- Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
- Test drive vehicles to validate repairs and diagnose problems
- Keep accurate service records using a web based service program
- Other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years experience related to position required
Class B CDL (Preferred)
Provide own tools a plus
Must be dependable and Punctual
Must be thorough and complete task right the first time
Strong verbal communication skills
Strong Organizational skills
Familiar with INSITE Diagnostics a Plus
Basic computer skills
Welding experience required
Clean driving record
Must be able to Lift/Push/Pull 100+ lbs frequently
Willing to work outside in all elements rain/snow/sun
