Position Description
Tektonics Design Group is a precision manufacturing and industrial design firm based in Richmond, Va. We are seeking a CNC Machinist to join our team and support the production of high-quality, detail-driven components through setup, tooling, fixturing and machining operations. This role is ideal for a hands-on machinist who enjoys problem-solving, working from drawings, and contributing to a collaborative shop environment. The CNC Machinist will report to the Machine Shop Manager. Tektonics works to ensure a safe, collaborative and supportive shop environment, and has proudly been moving complex design and manufacturing projects forward since 2003.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Setting up and operating CNC mills and CNC lathes
- Performing machining operations including turning, boring, facing, grooving, drilling, tapping, and milling
- Selecting and recommending appropriate tooling and fixturing
- Interpreting engineering drawings and plan machining sequences
- Troubleshooting machining issues in real time
- Inspecting parts using precision measurement tools
- Assisting in other shop areas as needed (laser engraving, woodshop support, shipping/receiving)
Required Qualifications
- 1–2 years of hands-on CNC machining experience
- Experience with CNC vertical mills and/or lathes
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Familiarity with precision measurement and inspection tools
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
- Good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
- Reading, writing, and some advanced arithmetic skills are required
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- High school diploma or GED
Preferred Skills
- Experience with manual machines (lathe, mill, drill press)
- Forklift experience
- Willingness to assist across departments and support teammates
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $34.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
