Job Description

  • Title: Code Enforcement Officer
  • PAY CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
  • REPORTS TO: Director of Building & Code Services
  • NATURE OF WORK:

The position is responsible for proactively patrolling the City for violations of local codes and ordinances, responding to complaints about potential violations, gathering evidence, issuing citations, and presenting at potential adjudication hearings. The position drafts and distributes a variety of correspondence, memoranda, notices, and reports relating to code enforcement issues and actions, and maintains various logs and records related to inspection and enforcement activities. The role has a high degree of public interaction and requires exemplary customer service as a priority. Additionally, the role requires the ability to work in inclement weather and varying property conditions. The normal work hours are Monday-Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Knowledge of the City’s codes and ordinances
  • Ability to investigate and discern violations of the City’s codes and ordinances
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the public and coworkers
  • Organizational skills necessary to complete daily tasks and follow-ups
  • Ability to diffuse hostile situations
  • Time management skills
  • General knowledge of computer functions and software applications
  • Use of an iPad to take pictures and write investigative reports
  • Maintain excellent records

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicant must have graduated from high school or have GED equivalent.
  • Applicant must possess basic skill level in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.
  • Applicant must possess the ability to learn case management software.
  • Applicant must have the ability to effectively meet and communicate with the public both verbally and in writing.
  • Applicant must possess a valid State driver’s license
  • Must live within a 20-mile radius of Marion City Hall
  • Must be able to work without constant supervision
  • Applicant must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
