Overview

This is a great opportunity to grow with a thriving company! We’re looking for someone who has a passion for conservation and the environment and wants to develop their skills and advance within the company.

Our ideal candidate will come with at least one year of driving experience at one company or two years cumulative at different companies operating step vans, cabover box trucks with 16'-20' boxes or similar equipment. During their time with us, they will gain hands-on experience and work towards independent problem solving that will result in increasing efficiency while maintaining safe operations.

The Collections Driver executes daily contracted commercial and residential collections of food scraps including coffee grounds, juice pulp, meat and bones, spent brewers grains, and mixed compostables.

The Driver will follow the same route schedule weekly, allowing them to become familiar with the servicing pattern within a few weeks. The goal is to maximize efficiency at each location while maintaining strong customer engagement to enhance client retention.

Job Type: Part-Time/ Full-time

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8-6 pm

Pay: $20/hr for the first 4 weeks of training then $23/hour after successful probationary period

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment): High-visibility gloves are supplied as needed plus you will receive a $200 reimbursement for protective gear (i.e., boots) every year after probationary period.

Duties

  • Navigate city and suburban routes while being able to adjust and react to changing road conditions and access issues safely and efficiently
  • Collect, secure and help track of compostable and recyclable materials
  • Unload truck, rinse out carts and prepare the truck for the next route day
  • Observe, report and help maintain cleanliness and operability of collection equipment
  • Restock or request for restock route consumables
  • Help customers with questions, concerns, or issues as needed
  • Perform vehicle safety checks and preventative maintenance as requested

Skills

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds overhead and get in/out of vehicle up to 200 times per day
  • Diligent adherence to safety standards/practices
  • Ability to use navigation tools, including maps and GPS systems
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

Education: High school or equivalent/Associates (Preferred)

License/Certification: Driver's License (Required) with clean driving record

Ability to Commute: 2532 Baldwick Rd Pittsburgh, PA 15205 (Required)

  • Breaks and lunches: Due to the nature of the job and time spent on the road, scheduled breaks may vary. While we strive to allow ample time for rest and meals, flexibility is essential.
  • Dumping & Cleaning: At the end of the day, the driver is expected to help unload all compostables and recyclables collected which can total 3,000-6000 pounds on any given route day.
