Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity Development & Communications Coordinator

Position Summary

Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity is seeking a Development & Communications Coordinator to support donor stewardship, communications, and community storytelling across our nine-county rural service area.

Wild Rivers has experienced steady growth through expanded home construction, home repair programs, and community-based initiatives that connect housing with health, stability, and workforce needs across Northwest Wisconsin. As our programs and partnerships continue to grow, so does the need to consistently share the impact of this work and strengthen relationships with donors, volunteers, and community partners.

The Development & Communications Coordinator position will help ensure that the stories, outcomes, and community impact of our work are communicated clearly and consistently while strengthening long-term community engagement and support.

This entry to mid-level position plays an important role in helping our organization communicate impact, strengthen relationships with donors and partners, and increase community awareness of affordable housing needs.

This role combines communications, marketing, and donor stewardship responsibilities and works closely with leadership and program staff to ensure consistent, mission-driven messaging.

The ideal candidate is an organized and strong communicator who enjoys storytelling, relationship-building, and community-based work. We are a small, mission driven organization serving many communities, that values reliability, clear communication, and mutual respect. This role is best suited for someone who takes ownership of their work, follows through on commitments, contributes positively to a team environment and takes pride in contributing to a shared mission.

Key Responsibilities

Donor Development & Stewardship

  • Coordinate donor acknowledgment and appreciation opportunities
  • Assist with donor stewardship communications and impact updates
  • Maintain donor records and engagement tracking
  • Support sponsor recognition and follow-up
  • Assist with preparation of donor and partner communications

Marketing & Communications

  • Manage and schedule social media content across platforms
  • Draft news releases and media updates
  • Coordinate newsletters and publications
  • Update website content and program information
  • Capture and share project stories, volunteer highlights, and homeowner impact stories
  • Maintain consistent organizational branding and messaging

Community Engagement & Events

  • Support promotion and communication of events and programs
  • Assist with donor and sponsor engagement opportunities
  • Help capture photos and stories during builds and events

Internal Collaboration

  • Work with staff to translate program outcomes into public-facing communications
  • Support consistent messaging across programs and outreach efforts

What This Position Is Not Responsible For

To ensure clarity and success, this position does not include:

  • Writing or managing grant applications
  • Leading major donor solicitation
  • Managing capital campaigns
  • Determining organizational fundraising strategy
  • Program management or construction oversight

Qualifications & Experience

This is an entry to mid-level position. We welcome candidates who are early in their career or looking to grow within nonprofit communications and development.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or equivalent experience
  • 1–3 years experience in communications, marketing, nonprofit work, or related field preferred
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Experience with social media platforms and digital communications
  • Experience with Canva or similar tools preferred
  • Photography or basic video skills a plus
  • Most importantly, candidates should have an interest in community development and affordable housing.

Position Details

  • 32 hours per week
  • Occasional travel throughout service area is required
  • Some evening or weekend events may be required

This in-person position is primarily based in Spooner, WI. A hybrid schedule (remote work location combined with in person location) may be available for the right candidate following onboarding and training.

Pay: $16.50 - $23.00 per hour
