The Director of Development & Communications is a key leadership role responsible for growing the financial and public support needed to advance the Illinois Conservation Foundation’s mission. This role will help drive fundraising strategy, oversee grant writing, and manage our public-facing communications, including donor relations, storytelling, social media, and press.

  • Coordinate appeals, campaigns, and special giving initiatives (e.g. State Park Endowment, Hall of Fame)
  • Support major donor and corporate sponsorship efforts in collaboration with the Executive Director

Grants

  • Research, write, and submit grant proposals to private foundations, government agencies, and corporate funders
  • Track application deadlines, reporting requirements, and grant compliance
  • Maintain a calendar of grant activity and donor reporting

Communications

  • Lead content strategy across email, social media, and web
  • Write compelling, mission-driven content that builds donor engagement
  • Serve as point of contact for media inquiries and public relations efforts
  • Ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment across platforms

Qualifications

  • Exceptional written communication skills
  • Proven success securing grants and managing donor relationships
  • Self-starter who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity with donor databases or CRMs preferred (e.g., DonorPerfect, Bloomerang, Salesforce, etc.)

This position directly supports programs that connect people to the outdoors and protect Illinois’ natural spaces. The work you do here will help ensure these experiences are available for generations to come.
