Full job description
Director of Discipleship
Mosaic Church – Beavercreek, Ohio
Full-Time
Reports to: Lead Pastor
Role Summary
The Director of Discipleship is a leadership role responsible for cultivating deep spiritual formation and advancing Mosaic’s commitment to being a genuinely multiethnic, multicultural, and multigenerational church. This role builds on Mosaic’s established discipleship pathway by equipping leaders, shaping teaching and learning environments, and embedding multicultural learning throughout the life of the church.
Rather than replacing pastors or existing leaders, this director works collaboratively to develop people, align systems, and deepen formation, helping Mosaic live out its vision across cultures and generations.
Primary Responsibilities
Faith Formation & Discipleship Pathway
- Steward and strengthen Mosaic’s existing discipleship pathway, ensuring clarity, depth, and accessibility
- Identify gaps and opportunities within the pathway and guide thoughtful improvements rooted in spiritual formation
- Collaborate with pastors and ministry leaders to align teaching, groups, and formation practices
- Help translate theology into lived discipleship through classes, cohorts, and formation experiences
Teaching & Preaching Collaboration
- Contribute to teaching and preaching through occasional preaching, teaching series, or special formation-focused gatherings
- Collaborate with the preaching team to ensure theological depth, cultural awareness, and pastoral sensitivity
- Support and develop diverse voices in teaching and learning environments
Note: This role collaborates with the preaching team and does not function as the primary weekly preacher.
Groups & Leader Development
- Recruit, equip, and support group leaders, facilitators, and formation guides
- Develop training pathways and ongoing support for leaders across life stages and cultural contexts
- Foster healthy group cultures rooted in belonging, trust, and spiritual growth
- Partner with staff and lay leaders to ensure group life reflects Mosaic’s diversity and values
Multiethnic & Multicultural Leadership
- Champion Mosaic’s vision of being a multiethnic, multicultural church
- Lead learning opportunities for staff, leaders, and the congregation focused on cultural humility, reconciliation, and belonging
- Partner with existing multiethnic leaders and cultural representatives, listening and learning alongside them
- Help evaluate ministries, systems, and leadership structures through a multiethnic lens
Collaboration & Leadership
- Serve as a collaborative leader alongside pastors, staff, and key volunteers
- Participate fully in staff life, strategic planning, and shared leadership
- Work closely with other directors and ministry leaders to integrate formation, care, and mission
- Support Mosaic’s broader vision through presence, communication, and leadership
Required Competencies
- Deep commitment to Jesus Christ and spiritual formation
- Demonstrated skill in teaching and facilitating learning within diverse contexts
- Experience leading discipleship, formation, or group-based ministries
- Proven ability to work within multiethnic, multicultural, multigenerational, and multi-income settings
- Strong relational intelligence, cultural humility, and collaborative leadership style
- Ability to develop leaders and empower others rather than over-functioning
- Alignment with Mosaic Church’s mission, values, and theology
Why This Role Matters
The Director of Faith Formation & Multiethnic Ministries helps Mosaic move beyond programs toward a deeply formed, spiritually grounded, and culturally faithful community. By investing in people, leaders, and learning environments, this role ensures that Mosaic’s discipleship pathway is not only clear—but transformative—and that its commitment to being multiethnic is practiced intentionally and authentically.
