Kitchen Assistant & Maintenance Associate
Reports to: Director of Food Services
Effective: June 2026
Status: Full Time
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Job Summary
Performs semi-skilled and non-skilled work in food preparation while also carrying out custodial and maintenance duties to support the overall operation, cleanliness, and sanitation of the church kitchen. Assists the Director of Food Services with meal preparation, service, and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
This position combines food preparation, service, and kitchen maintenance duties. Work includes preparing and serving food, cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment and facilities, and supporting church meals and events. Duties involve moderate to heavy physical activity and exposure to kitchen equipment, heat, fumes, and cleaning chemicals. Work is performed under supervision and reviewed for quality and adherence to sanitation standards.
Essential Duties and Tasks
· Help prepare and cook a variety of foods for meals, receptions, and events.
· Assist with food preparation including washing, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
· Serve food and assist with event setup, tables, and hospitality needs.
· Wash dishes by hand and operate dishwashing equipment.
· Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and surfaces.
· Sweep, mop, remove trash, and perform detailed cleaning of kitchen areas.
· Receive, unload, and store food and supplies properly.
· Monitor inventory and report low supplies.
· Maintain cleanliness, safety, and sanitation standards at all times.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Food Services.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Knowledge of basic food preparation and cleaning procedures.
· Understanding of food health and safety regulations.
· Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
· Strong time management and organizational skills.
· Ability to perform moderately heavy physical work.
· Ability to communicate effectively and work well with others.
Desirable Education and Experience
Experience in food service, cooking, or kitchen maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Hours will be a combination of daytime, evenings and occasional weekend hours totaling approximately 40 hours per week.
Pay: $21.00 per hour
