Position Summary

The Lead Truck Loader is responsible for organizing and overseeing all truck loading operations in the shipping bay. This person ensures each load is staged, balanced, tagged, and secured properly for delivery. The role is hands-on — leading by example, coordinating the loading crew, and keeping communication tight between fabrication, paint, and dispatch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily truck loading schedule based on job priorities and delivery deadlines.
  • Lead and train truck loading crew members in safe, efficient loading practices.
  • Review fabrication drawings, piece marks, and shipping lists to verify accuracy of loads.
  • Stage and organize completed steel for upcoming shipments to minimize bottlenecks.
  • Communicate with project managers, paint, and logistics to ensure loads are complete and accurate before dispatch.
  • Inspect trucks for proper load securement, balance, and DOT compliance.
  • Operate forklifts, cranes, and rigging equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Track load progress and report issues (missing pieces, damage, etc.) promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized loadout area following 5S/Lean principles.
  • Model safe work habits and enforce company safety standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in steel fabrication, warehousing, or heavy-industrial shipping.
  • Proven ability to lead or train others in a production environment.
  • Forklift, overhead crane and rigging experience required
  • Strong understanding of load balance, strapping, and safe tie-down practices.
  • Comfortable reading shipping lists and piece marks
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced shop.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift steel materials up to 75 lbs.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
