Position Title: Library Director

Location: Ralpho Township Public Library, Elysburg, PA

Community Served: Ralpho Township and surrounding areas, ~4,000 residents

About Ralpho Township Public Library

Located in the heart of our vibrant community, Ralpho Township Public Library is more than just a place to borrow books; it’s a cornerstone of learning, culture, and connection. The Ralpho Township Public Library is in its 52nd year of operation. Our library offers an extensive collection of books and multimedia materials, catering to all ages and interests. We host a variety of programs, from children’s story hours and summer reading programs to adult education workshops and cultural events. Ralpho Township Public Library is truly a little place where big things happen!

Key Responsibilities:

● Oversee all library operations, including budgeting, staffing, programming, and services.

● Develop and implement strategic plans to meet the evolving needs of the community.

● Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for all library patrons.

● Engage with the community to promote library services and programs.

● Lead and manage a team of dedicated staff and volunteers, providing mentorship and professional development opportunities.

● Manage the library’s collection, ensuring it meets the diverse needs and interests of the community.

● Collaborate with the Library Board of Directors and other local organizations to advance the library’s mission.

● Meet all local and state requirements including attending District meetings, completing State reports, and obtaining continuing education hours through conferences, workshops, webinars, and other training to learn about new trends, issues, products, and best practices.

● Maintain the library website and social media accounts

● Attend monthly board meetings and prepare and present monthly board reports

● Prepares grant applications and seeks funding for operational and improvement programs

● Actively seeks grants, gifts, and other new sources of funding for the library

Required Qualifications:

● Associate’s degree and at least 9 credit hours in library science from an ALA-accredited program.

● Library Assistant Certification through the Department of Education.

For an exceptional candidate with comparable education and experience, the library offers tuition reimbursement to complete the required 9 credit hours of library science coursework at an approved institution, if the candidate does not already hold a library certificate.

● Minimum of 2 years of managerial experience in a library setting.

Essential Qualifications:

● Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a community organizer mindset.

● Proven experience in grant writing and fundraising.

● Excellent communication and organizational skills.

● Passion for public service and community engagement.

● Ability to speak to and engage large and small groups of all ages

● Demonstrated expertise with library management systems like SPARK, Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications, as well as Internet technology like Zoom, Canva, website management platforms like WordPress, and database systems

● A love of reading and the ability to develop familiarity with popular adult and children’s books and authors

● Supports the mission, vision, and values of the library

● Ability to stoop and use a stepstool to reach bookshelves

● Ability to lift book containers which are typically 20-30 pounds, but could occasionally be up to 50 pounds

● Maintain strict confidentiality with patron and financial records

● Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

● Obtain all PA required clearances including Act 34 Clearance (State Police) – PA State Police Criminal History Report, Act 151 Clearance (Child Abuse) – PA Department of Human Services Child Abuse Report, and Act 114 Clearance (Fingerprinting), and Mandated Reporter Certification.

Compensation and Schedule:

Salary range $30,000–$35,000, commensurate with education and experience. The position reports to the Library Board of Directors and works closely with library staff and volunteers. The Library seeks to fill this position as soon as possible, with an immediate start preferred.
