Full job description
Position: Manager of Transition to Practice Program
Purpose of the Position: The Manager of the Transition to Practice Program, under the oversight of the Director of the Transition to Practice (TTP) Program, is responsible for managing the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of the statewide TTP Program for new graduate Registered Nurses. The Manager demonstrates expertise in staff development, adult learning principles, facilitation, leadership, and research. This role supports the professional growth of nursing and promotes empowerment through knowledge, aiming to achieve excellence in evidence-based nursing practice. This is accomplished by facilitating the educational process aligned with program goals and outcomes measurements, fostering organizational integration, conducting competency assessments, guiding practice-based learning through preceptors/mentors or experienced healthcare professionals, and providing continuing education and leadership development for preceptors/mentors or experienced healthcare professionals.
As a role model for professional behavior, the Manager plays a crucial role in fostering a professional nursing environment that empowers nurses to adhere to their scope and standards of professional practice while addressing social determinants of health and equity and promoting lifelong learning. This position is grant-funded and is scheduled to expire on September 30, 2026. At that time, efforts will be made to secure additional funding opportunities. As a result, there may be a need for workforce adjustments or a reduction in working hours unless alternative employment arrangements can be made. We recognize the importance of maintaining a dedicated nursing team and are committed to exploring all available options to minimize potential disruptions.
The Manager reports to the Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Director.
Program management
- Responsible for management of the TTP Program
- Assists with marketing, recruitment and onboarding of facilities into the TTP Program
- Ensures that grant deliverables are met.
- Prepares clear, relevant and easily understood education and impact reports.
- Review participant participation reports on Canvas and the Impact dashboard weekly.
- Supports program director reporting and analytics regarding the TTP program.
- Assists the director with developing and implementing the program curriculum and oversees resident progression through the program components.
- Facilitates the identification and selection of mentors and supports the mentor/mentee relationship.
- Develop collaborative relationships with key hospital staff and provide needed clinical subject matter expertise, coaching, and resources.
- Develops and presents education based on current evidence-based practice.
- Schedules, facilitates and participates in stakeholder site visits.
- Together with the program director, serves as the point of contact for facilities.
- Serves as a backup for the program director.
Educator/Facilitator
- In collaboration with practice-based educators and the Director, the Manager develops, coordinates, implements and evaluates education plans based on identified needs of the learners and the organization related to initial and ongoing competencies, educational programs and professional development
- Facilitate program participant focus groups and town halls
- Facilitates the use of a variety of methodologies to incorporate adult learning principles for desired outcomes
- As needed and in collaboration with the curriculum vendor, support curriculum facilitation for hospitals that do not have SMES. Curriculum that can be supported by AzHHA will be pre-determined
Mentor
- Provides mentorship to TTP Program mentors, preceptors and participating new graduate registered nurses
- Demonstrates coaching behavior consistent with a culture of mutual respect and trust
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Registered Nurse; Bachelor’s degree in nursing or other healthcare-related field required
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Master’s Degree
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Healthcare experience in a hospital in the last 5 years is required; minimum of 1 year in clinical education, staff development or teaching; practical knowledge of nurse transition to practice (residency) programs and their functional application in a hospital setting.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Experience with Canvas Learning Management Platform. Experience with new graduate nurse transition to practice program, residency program or new graduate nurse onboarding. Prior experience with project management. Education or experience in adult learning principles preferred.
