Full job description
Are you fascinated by the hidden stories behind mechanical failures? Do you thrive on piecing together the puzzle of what went wrong in complex systems—whether it’s a shattered gear, a collapsed conveyor, or a HVAC system that’s left everyone in the cold? We’re on the hunt for a Mechanical Forensic Engineer with a relentless curiosity and a knack for problem-solving to join our team. In this role, you’ll dive into investigations across commercial, residential, and industrial settings, uncovering the root causes of mechanical mysteries, crafting compelling technical reports, and stepping into the spotlight as an expert witness. Ready to travel the region and tackle challenges head-on? This is your chance to make an impact.
Responsibilities
Conduct hands-on forensic investigations in the mechanical engineering realm, including:
- Equipment and Machinery Failures
- HVAC and Plumbing System Malfunctions
- Vibration and Fatigue Analysis
- Manufacturing Defects and Material Failures
- Fire, Flood, and Storm-Related Mechanical Damage
- Dig into code research, failure mode analysis, and documentation to support your findings
- Develop scopes of work and budget estimates for projects
- Write detailed, clear reports that break down your investigative conclusions
- Juggle multiple cases with precision and efficiency
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Split your time between office analysis and field action—think industrial plants, rooftops, and crawlspaces.
- Be prepared to climb ladders, navigate tight spaces, inspect equipment at height, and drive to reach project sites.
- Comfort with physically demanding tasks—like maneuvering in confined areas or working on elevated platforms—is a must.
If this sounds like your kind of adventure, apply today if you bring:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- A Virginia PE license (bonus points for additional states!)
- 5-15+ years of engineering experience
- Top-notch written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills
- The agility and willingness to tackle field inspections in diverse environments
