Remote OSP Design Supervisor
Universal Utility Solutions, LLC
Universal Utility Solutions (UUS) is seeking an experienced Remote OSP Design Supervisor to lead and support our power utility and joint-use design teams. This role is responsible for supervising design staff, ensuring engineering quality and compliance, and coordinating with project managers and clients to deliver make-ready and pole design projects on time and within budget.
This position is primarily remote, with occasional onsite or field visits required.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise OSP / power utility design staff; assign work based on priorities and deadlines
- Train and coach employees on company processes, client standards, and engineering workflows
- Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and calculations for accuracy and compliance
- Ensure designs comply with NESC, client standards, and local, state, and federal regulations
- Oversee aerial make-ready, pole replacement, and joint-use design work
- Maintain and enforce QA/QC standards, templates, and design procedures
- Coordinate with Project Managers to meet project schedules and budgets
- Support leadership and business development by reviewing project scope, feasibility, and resource needs
- Communicate with clients and internal teams to determine cost-effective engineering solutions
- Analyze field-collected data and support permitting and new attachment processes as needed
- Provide documentation to support project tracking and billing
Qualifications
- Experience supervising or leading power utility or OSP design teams
- Strong knowledge of aerial and Underground broadband network build standards, joint-use best practices, pole loading analysis, and Make-Ready Engineering.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD; familiarity with Katapult, O-Calc, or SpidaCalc preferred
- Working knowledge of NESC and utility design requirements
- Strong leadership, organization, time management, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
Work Environment
- Primarily remote, with occasional travel for field validation, training, or client meetings
- Limited fieldwork may include walking job sites and observing utility infrastructure
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally
- Field activities may occur in residential, commercial, or industrial environments and various weather conditions
- Occasional access to energized substations (up to 745kV) with proper coordination
