Full job description
Sweet River Equine Clinic Inc. is a family-owned, equine veterinary practice located in Modesto, CA. We offer high quality veterinary medicine in a collaborative and well-supported environment. As our clinic continues to grow, we are looking for a compassionate, experienced Veterinary Assistant or Registered Veterinary Technician to join our exceptional team.
Position Overview:
The primary role for this position will be to assist our veterinarians with their daily appointments. We also offer elective surgeries at our facility, and assisting with those will be another important role for the position. Ideal candidates will be experienced in skills pertinent to the position of an equine veterinary assistant or RVT, including horse handling, as well as team oriented, reliable, motivated, and passionate about providing outstanding care to both our patients and their families.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform safe and compassionate equine handling and restraint
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by veterinarians
- Collect and process blood, urine, fecal, and other diagnostic samples
- Assist in radiology, ultrasound, and other imaging procedures
- Maintain accurate patient records and treatment notes
- Provide client education on animal care, medications, and preventive health, as directed by the veterinarian
- Maintain cleanliness, sterilization, and organization of hospital areas and equipment
- Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition (triage/emergency support)
- Collaborate effectively with veterinarians and support staff in a team environment
- Demonstrate strong communication and customer service skills with clients
- Prepare patients, instruments, and equipment for surgery
- Monitor anesthesia and surgical recovery with attention to detail
Requirements:
- Experience in responsibilities listed above and preferably a minimum of 2 years’ veterinary work experience
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Positive, team-oriented attitude
- Passion for equine care and client support
