Job Summary

Colman Building Center in Colman, SD is seeking a dedicated and experienced Yard / Distribution Manager. In this role, you will oversee all warehouse operations, ensuring the proper handling, storage, and distribution of building materials, tools, and supplies. You’ll be responsible for supervising yard staff, managing accurate inventory, and maintaining the warehouse to meet the needs of our customers and ensure timely order fulfillment.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise day-to-day warehouse activities, including receiving, storing, organizing, and distributing building materials and supplies.
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels to meet business demands. Regularly monitor stock levels and reorder materials as necessary from suppliers.
  • Coordinate and manage the loading and unloading of trucks. Ensure that all shipments are correctly loaded for delivery, and track outgoing orders for timely completion, and continuously assess and improve process efficiencies to optimize yard operations
  • Ensure the warehouse and yard are clean, organized, and safe. Enforce safety procedures and ensure staff are trained on proper equipment use.
  • Assist customers with product location, resolve order issues, and address challenges that arise during daily operations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of inventory, shipping, and receiving activities.

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience in warehouse or inventory management, including staff supervision, with a strong preference for those with experience in a lumberyard or a related construction materials business.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with inventory management systems is preferred, but not required
  • Ability to operate manual and powered pallet jacks, forklifts, and other lumberyard and warehouse equipment.
  • CDL Class A preferred, but not required
