About the Role R.L. Yost Trucking & Supply is looking for a hardworking, dependable Yard Operator to keep our landscape supply yard running smoothly. This is a hands-on role where you'll work from a daily task list while also being capable of staying productive and problem-solving on your own between direction. Responsibilities include loading customers with wheel loaders, handling shipping and receiving, maintaining a clean and organized facility, managing product inventory, and making deliveries when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate various size wheel loaders to load customer orders and move bulk materials (mulch, topsoil, stone, compost, etc.) — including loading customer vehicles of all types and sizes; care and awareness around customer property is expected at all times
- Handle all shipping and receiving — verify incoming loads, stage materials, and maintain accurate product counts
- Organize and maintain palletized hardscape products including retaining wall block, pavers, caps, and related materials across various blends and sizes
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate low stock to management before it becomes a problem
- Keep the yard clean, safe, and well-organized at all times — including mowing and general grounds upkeep
- Perform routine equipment maintenance — greasing machines, checking fluid levels, and flagging any service needs
- Operate as a delivery driver — haul loads to customer and job sites (CDL not required, but a plus)
- Assist in coordinating delivery scheduling when multiple drivers are running
- Provide professional, helpful service to contractors, landscapers, and homeowners picking up at the yard
- Open and close the yard following standard procedures
What We're Looking For
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (required)
- Must be able to drive a manual transmission — all yard and delivery vehicles are stick shift
- Comfortable operating heavy equipment — wheel loader experience strongly preferred; willing to train the right person
- Physically capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions and lifting 50+ lbs
- Able to follow a daily task list and take direction from management
- Self-sufficient between tasks — keeps moving and stays productive without needing to be told what's next
- Mechanically inclined; comfortable with basic equipment maintenance and greasing routines
- Reliable and punctual — the yard depends on you showing up ready to go
- Able to do basic math and keep simple inventory records
Preferred (Not Required)
- CDL (Class A or B) — a significant plus for the delivery driver portion of this role
- General knowledge of landscape materials, agriculture supply, construction materials, or a similar industry
- Experience in a yard, farm, quarry, nursery, or outdoor supply operation
- Forklift certification or experience
- Familiarity with contractor and trade customer expectations
What We Offer
- Competitive hourly wage based on experience
- A consistent role with clear expectations and room to grow
- Additional pay opportunity for CDL delivery work
- Work with a well-established, locally owned operation
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
Benefits:
- On-the-job training
- Opportunities for advancement
