Job Title: After-School Sports Coach — Overtime Athletics Louisville
Location: Greater Louisville Area
Job Type: Part-Time
Pay: Starting at $16/hour, with raises available after each successful 6-week program session
Schedule: Weekday afternoons, primarily between 2:00 PM and 4:30 PM
Start Date: Late August 2026
Overtime Athletics is hiring dependable, energetic coaches for our fall after-school youth sports programs in the Louisville area.
OTA coaches lead fun, active sports classes for kids at local schools. Programs may include basketball, soccer, flag football, floor hockey, kickball, dodgeball, wiffle ball, tennis, and other sports-based games.
Most fall programs begin in late August, with many starting the week before Labor Day.
This is a great part-time role for college students, athletes, former athletes, coaches, teachers, education majors, sport management students, and anyone who enjoys working with kids.
The most important requirement is reliability. Schools, families, kids, and teammates are counting on you. If you accept a class, you are expected to be there on time, prepared, and ready to coach.
What You’ll Do
- Lead or assist after-school sports classes at Louisville-area schools.
- Run high-energy sessions focused on fun, teamwork, confidence, and basic skill-building.
- Follow OTA curriculum and class structure.
- Help manage groups of children in preschool, elementary, or middle school programs.
- Arrive early enough to set up and be ready before students arrive.
- Stay through dismissal and make sure every child is safely checked out.
- Manage and transport your assigned equipment bag.
- Communicate professionally with OTA leadership, school staff, parents, and other coaches.
- Notify OTA as early as possible if a schedule issue comes up.
Schedule
Most classes take place Monday through Friday between 2:00 PM and 5:30 PM.
Each class is typically 1 hour, with paid setup and dismissal time before and after class. Coaches are usually paid for 1.5 hours per class.
Coaches work weekdays depending on availability and program schedule. Most coaches work 3–4 days per week.
Morning and daytime availability is a plus for occasional additional programs, but it is not required.
OTA programs are typically organized into 6-week program sessions. Coaches who complete a full 6-week program session and meet expectations may become eligible for a pay increase before the next session begins.
Travel Expectations
This role requires reliable transportation and the ability to travel to school sites throughout the Greater Louisville area.
We make every effort to keep travel reasonable based on coach location, availability, and program schedule. However, coaches should understand that OTA serves schools across Louisville, and they may be assigned to different school sites during the week or from one program session to the next.
Coaches are expected to travel to assigned school locations on time and prepared to coach. Mileage reimbursement is not provided.
What We’re Looking For
- Reliable, punctual, and professional coaches.
- People who enjoy working with kids.
- Positive role models with strong energy and patience.
- Comfortable leading games and activities in a sports or recreation setting.
- Basic knowledge of sports. OTA provides curriculum and training.
- Strong communication skills.
- Reliable transportation to and from school sites.
- Availability during weekday after-school hours.
Reliability Expectations
This role requires consistent attendance and communication.
Coaches are expected to:
- Show up on time for every assigned class.
- Communicate schedule conflicts as early as possible.
- Avoid last-minute callouts except for true emergencies.
- Respond promptly to scheduling and program communication.
- Follow through on the days they commit to working.
- Complete the full 6-week program session they are assigned to whenever possible.
Repeated lateness, no-shows, poor communication, or last-minute cancellations may result in removal from the schedule.
Reliability directly affects future scheduling and pay increases. Coaches who consistently show up, communicate well, and complete full 6-week program sessions successfully will have the opportunity to earn higher hourly rates over time.
Pay and Growth
Starting pay is $16/hour.
Coaches are eligible for a $2/hour raise after each successfully completed 6-week program session that meets OTA expectations for attendance, reliability, communication, professionalism, and program quality.
The pay scale caps at $24/hour.
Pay progression:
- Starting rate: $16/hour
- After 1 successful 6-week program session: $18/hour
- After 2 successful 6-week program sessions: $20/hour
- After 3 successful 6-week program sessions: $22/hour
- After 4 successful 6-week program sessions: $24/hour
Raises are based on successfully completing a full 6-week program session and meeting expectations. Repeated lateness, no-shows, poor communication, missed classes, or failure to meet program standards may delay or prevent a raise.
Requirements
- Experience working with children preferred.
- Coaching, teaching, camp, childcare, or youth sports experience is a plus.
- Reliable transportation required.
- Must be able to travel to assigned school sites throughout the Greater Louisville area.
- Background check and Child Abuse and Neglect check required before working with students.
- Must be able to work in person at Louisville-area school sites.
Work Environment
- Part-time after-school work.
- Classes typically include 10–20 children.
- Some classes may have both a Lead Coach and Support Coach.
- Mandatory training and occasional staff meetings.
- OTA provides curriculum, equipment, and support.
If you enjoy sports, working with kids, and being part of a fun after-school environment, we’d love to hear from you.
Pay: $16.00 - $24.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Flexible schedule
Work Location: In person
