Full job description

Population Connection, a national nonprofit organization working to educate the public about population and related environmental, economic and social issues, seeks candidates for a 6-month fellowship in its Population Education (PopEd) Program. This position will focus on the development of Population Education teaching resources for K-12 classrooms and will support other program activities as needed. The position is based in Washington, DC.

Fellowship responsibilities include:

- Assisting with research to support the update of the World Population video.

- Developing new middle and high school level lesson plans on topics related to population, society, and the environment.

- Working with program staff to revise teacher resources as needed, including reviewing standards matches, adapting resources for specific courses or geographic locations, etc.

- Writing blogs on education trends and population-related topics for the program website.

- Assisting with the recruitment process for PopEd’s volunteer network of teacher-trainers.

Requirements: Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in environmental and human population issues, experience and/or understanding of K-12 education, and strong research and writing skills. B.A. or B.S. required. Teaching experience strongly preferred.

Compensation: $28/hour ($2,100/pay period, before taxes) plus competitive benefits package.

Location: The Population Education Program team is based in Washington, DC and currently works a hybrid schedule (2 days in the office; 3 at home). The Fellow is expected to work in person in the DC office at least two days each week.
