Job Overview
Reporting to the Corporate Director, Environment, Health and Safety, the EHS Senior Advisor works collaboratively to implement the organization's health and safety programs in order to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all. Candidate ensures that Bitumar plants in the United States remain in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Also works with various stakeholders to promote a workplace health and safety culture focused on prevention. Acts as a health and safety advisor to all employees of the company. The Senior EHS Advisor participates in the training of the Training, Procedure and Safety Coordinator and acts as a mentor.
Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of the EHS Strategy.
- Participate development and implementation of best practices in health, safety, and environmental management
- Stay up-to-date on the rules applicable to our industry at our sites in the United States to ensure compliance;
- Maintain up-to-date training program on health, safety and emergency measures in order to maintain competencies and comply with regulations. For some trainings, act as trainer;
- Participate in various committees, including joint health and safety committees;
- Perform safety walks at facilities to ensure they follow health and safety procedures, ensure compliance with recommendations to ascertain safe performance of work;
- Assist and advise plant managers in managing major emergency response and conduct the necessary investigation and analysis;
- Promote and coordinate various activities related to prevention;
- Track and support the execution of the annual EHS Action Plan
- Accountable for managing EHS Documentation to include program design, EHS Data, Training Documentation and KPI reports.
- Act as a coach to Site Leaders to implement transformational change
Requirements
- Proven experience in manufacturing or industrial environments with a strong understanding of OSHA standards, EPA regulations, and workers' compensation law.
- Certifications such as First Aid, CPR, OSHA training, or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Knowledge of occupational health principles and environmental management systems (EHS).
- Strong report writing skills coupled with analytical skills for root cause analysis.
- Excellent training & development capabilities to educate staff on safety protocols.
- Ability to conduct thorough investigations into incidents or hazards using root cause analysis techniques.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate across departments and promote safety initiatives.
- Relevant degree or professional certifications in occupational health & safety or environmental management are preferred.
