About Seed
Adult-use cannabis is legal in Massachusetts, and Seed is proud to be one of the first locally permitted cannabis establishments in the City of Boston.
Seed operates a high-end retail cannabis dispensary and social justice cannabis museum in Jamaica Plain and is adding a new location in Somerville, MA! Our mission is to provide a welcoming and educational experience while offering high-quality cannabis products and fostering meaningful conversation about the history, science, and culture of cannabis.
Join the Seed Team
Seed is seeking an Assistant Retail Manager to support daily dispensary operations and assist in supervising staff and customer experience. This role will begin with a training period focused on operational knowledge, compliance, and team leadership with the goal of developing into a fully operational Assistant Manager position. This position will likely start in Jamaica Plain while training in the role.
The Assistant Manager will coordinate day-to-day store activity, guiding support staff performance, and ensuring accurate execution of operational procedures. This role is responsible for maintaining operational flow, employee accountability, and a positive customer experience. This position reports directly to the Retail and Personnel Director.
Key Responsibilities
Store Operations & Floor Oversight
- Oversee day-to-day retail operations.
- Maintain awareness of all activities on the sales floor and provide operational direction to staff.
- Ensure staff remain engaged, productive, and focused on assigned responsibilities.
- Oversee opening and closing procedures.
- Provide real-time coaching, feedback, and training to team members to ensure consistent service standards.
- Lead daily morning meetings and communicate operational priorities to staff.
Customer Experience
- Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service.
- Support staff in handling customer concerns or operational challenges.
- Ensure a professional, welcoming, and compliant retail environment at all times.
- Assist marketing with maintaining store appearance and stock.
- Monitor and respond to reviews, taking feedback to help enhance operations or identify needed training.
Staff Oversight & Training
- Provide guidance and coaching to Purveyors and Senior Associates.
- Monitor employee performance and accuracy during transactions and daily tasks.
- Identify training opportunities and reinforce company procedures and policies.
- Assist leadership with performance feedback and staff development.
- Seek out and provide training to build employee knowledge.
Cash & Financial Controls
- Oversee daily cash handling procedures.
- Support team with change requests and cash drawer management.
- Assist with deposit preparation and reconciliation documentation.
- Conduct monthly petty cash and cash exchange box with oversight; includes seed coin tracking; ensure properly documented.
- Ensure all financial procedures are executed according to company policy.
Compliance & Operational Accuracy
- Maintain awareness of Massachusetts cannabis regulations and internal compliance requirements.
- Ensure store procedures align with regulatory standards.
- Report and document operational or compliance concerns to leadership.
- Ensure the dispensary remains safe, secure, and organized.
Inventory & Order Fulfillment Support
- Support oversight of inventory operations and staff.
- Coordinate with inventory team when needed to ensure product availability and operational accuracy.
- Monitor staff handling of products to reduce errors and loss.
Qualifications
- Must be 21+ years old
- 2+ years of retail or hospitality leadership experience preferred
- Cannabis retail experience is required
- 1+ years of supervisory experience in a cannabis retail facility is highly desired
- Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in a business field. Bachelor’s degree is highly desired.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment

- Reliable, professional, and ethical work habits
- Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays
