POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Toolmaker is responsible for planning, laying out, and performing machining operations and bench work to construct, alter, and repair tools, dies, fixtures, jobs, molds, gauges, etc. of complicated and involved design to close and exacting tolerances and finish requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded as management determines necessary.

  • Organize and determine the work procedures and sequences. Select materials in accordance with specifications and lay out project components for machining operations.
  • Perform difficult machining operations requiring complicated and unusual setups necessitating frequent improvisations and adaptations of tooling and machines to perform work beyond the normal capacity of available machine tools.
  • Construct temporary fixtures and jobs; grind special purpose tools, improvise measuring devices to check components and project assemblies.
  • Perform critical bench operations to construct, finish, maintain, and repair molds to involve polishing, fitting aligning, timing, and calibrating mechanisms.
  • Design new tooling and fixtures for new parts in the plastic department in the absence of specifications or design detail.
  • Set up new or modified tools and dies in production machines for trial runs and provide instruction to operators on operational methods, care, and procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for the quality of workmanship, dimensional accuracy and efficient mechanical operation of assigned projects.
  • Complete various projects and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):

Requires a broad knowledge of tool making and machining technology, mechanical principles, advanced mathematics, layout and precision measuring procedures, material characteristics and treatment applications usually acquired through an accredited Tool and Die Maker

Apprenticeship program plus up to 3 years of diversified tool and die making experience
