Network & Infrastructure Assessment Engineer (Contract – 1099)

Location

Remote (U.S. – EST hours) | Occasional onsite in New York, if required

Job Summary

We are seeking experienced consultants to support a short-term network and infrastructure assessment project for a New York government agency. The role involves evaluating current-state environments, identifying risks, and delivering recommendations across network, security, and cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Assess enterprise network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, routing, switching)
• Review firewall configurations, VPNs, and security controls
• Evaluate load balancing (F5 or similar) and traffic management
• Analyze VMware environments (vSphere, ESXi, VDI)
• Review cloud environments (Azure and/or AWS)
• Perform vulnerability and risk assessments
• Document findings and provide remediation recommendations
• Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders

Required Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with:
• Cisco networking (BGP, OSPF, VLANs)
• Firewalls (Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, etc.)
• VPN technologies
• Load balancers (F5 preferred)
• VMware (vSphere, ESXi)
• Cloud platforms (Azure or AWS)
• Experience with security assessments / vulnerability tools
• Strong documentation and reporting skills
• Ability to work independently in a consulting environment

Preferred

• Experience with government or large enterprise environments
• Exposure to VMware NSX
• Certifications (CCNP, CCIE, CISSP, AWS/Azure, VMware)

Project Details

• Duration: ~2–6 months
• Start: Summer 2026
• Engagement: Contract (C2C or 1099)

Compensation

Competitive hourly rate (based on experience)
