It WAS great for almost 3 years.... now it's only "good" because.... (warning long review)
Driver/Delivery (Current Employee) – Eugene, OR – August 8, 2019
I'm writing this because of a recent change to Grubhub. I loved my job for about 3 years, although sometimes I was stressed because of things like: cancelled orders(no pay unless you already have the food and clicked "Got order" in the app), waiting at restaurants, or waiting in traffic, but otherwise it's generally pretty stress-free. You work when you want to, set your own schedules(which works like a grab bag event when the schedules come out)... and the pay can be pretty good, especially on the weekends.
HOWEVER - A recent change, sometime around the start of summer 2019, they changed the pay. It sounded good - they worded it like it was a good change, perhaps we would get paid better, and paid for actual estimated mileage rather than their weird "as the crow flies" estimates. A month down the road or so, I noticed I'm getting orders around $3.00 ... of course there is possibility of tip, but usually non-tippers online don't tip in person either. I've even heard from other drivers even lower amounts than 3 bucks. This is pretty bad because before the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM was *$3.75 PLUS weirdly calculated miles*. So most orders ended up about $4.25 or more. NOW the mimimum order has been cut down by about 25%. Then I began to take note of all orders being LESS than they were 3 YEARS AGO. Really this bothered me a lot. Even though they pay a little more for miles, the minimum pay has been CUT OUT, so the overall pay is less every single order. Far as I've seen, the pay(per delivery, excluding tip) has been less on average than it was 3 years ago due to this recent change. ALTHOUGH they have a $13/hr minimum if you accept all deliveries and are on a shift, usually we got payed muuuch more, pretty consistently. Pretty dirty IMO...
So now I still do Grubhub, but I just reject those little pipsqueak orders, which causes me to lose out on the higher tier, and early access to schedule. I also have other forms of income, which before I only did Grubhub, and the pay was pretty good, now it's hit n miss.
Another note, it's interesting to meet other drivers... Some can be cool, but others can be weird and anti-social.
That's all, thanks for listening to my rant.
