About Surayya Anne Foundation

The Surayya Anne Foundation is a local nonprofit organization in Tulsa, Oklahoma serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness, disability, financial hardship, immigration-related barriers, and other vulnerable circumstances. Through transitional living support, case management, emergency assistance, community partnerships, and donor-funded programs, the Foundation works to provide dignity, stability, and practical support to those in need.

Position Summary

The Surayya Anne Foundation is seeking a mission-driven and highly responsible Executive Director to lead the organization’s daily operations, staff, programs, partnerships, and strategic growth.

The Executive Director serves as the public face of the Foundation and works closely with the Board President, Executive Board, Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors, community partners, and clients. This role requires strong leadership, sound judgment, excellent communication skills, nonprofit knowledge, and the ability to handle sensitive and urgent situations with professionalism, compassion, and accountability.

The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring that all areas of the Foundation operate in alignment with the organization’s mission, policies, budget, ethical standards, and long-term growth goals.

Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Organizational Management

  • Provide overall leadership for the Foundation’s daily operations, programs, staff, volunteers, and committees.
  • Clearly communicate and uphold the mission, vision, values, and strategic goals of the Foundation.
  • Work with department heads, committees, staff, and board members to ensure clear direction and accountability.
  • Support a healthy, professional, and respectful work environment for staff, volunteers, interns, clients, and board members.
  • Help resolve conflict between committees, staff, volunteers, or stakeholders using evidence-based and ethical best practices.
  • Assist with identifying organizational needs, budget priorities, revenue goals, and areas for improvement.
  • Support the implementation of strategic goals and special projects in coordination with the Board President and Board of Directors.

Program & Client Services Oversight

  • Oversee daily operations of the Foundation’s transitional living apartment complex.
  • Participate in weekly staffing meetings and provide guidance on client-related needs and program decisions.
  • Support the case management team in handling complex client situations, including hospitalizations, evictions, trauma-related concerns, domestic violence needs, and urgent assistance requests.
  • Coordinate with agencies such as COPES, DVIS, and other community organizations when urgent client support is needed.
  • Screen incoming client applications and monitor eligibility, assistance needs, and available resources.
  • Monitor offsite assistance and onsite financial distributions to ensure they align with approved budgets and program guidelines.
  • Track and report monthly client service data, outcomes, and program needs.
  • Help expand case management services in alignment with organizational growth goals.

Board Relations & Governance Support

  • Serve as a liaison between staff, volunteers, and the Board of Directors.
  • Work with the Board President to plan board meeting structure, prepare relevant information, and support effective communication.
  • Keep the board informed regarding staff updates, donor activity, campaign results, client service trends, staff concerns, volunteer engagement, and organizational needs.
  • Support board development efforts, including board recruitment, orientation, and training.
  • Help ensure that the board, staff, and committees operate under clear codes of ethics, charters, policies, and procedures.
  • Streamline technology and communication tools used by the board, staff, and committees.

Fundraising, Donor Relations & Financial Management

  • Work with the board and staff to develop actionable fundraising plans and revenue goals.
  • Participate in donor cultivation, donation solicitation, fundraising campaigns, and grant-related efforts as appropriate.
  • Help engage board members in fundraising and donor relationship-building.
  • Attend and assist with fundraising events, special programs, and community outreach activities.
  • Review and understand key financial documents, including budgets, profit and loss statements, cash flow reports, income statements, balance sheets, audits, and Form 990 filings.
  • Ensure program spending and financial assistance align with approved budgets, donor intent, and organizational guidelines.

Community Relations & Public Representation

  • Represent the Foundation professionally and responsibly in the community.
  • Build and maintain relationships with nonprofit leaders, partner agencies, businesses, government agencies, donors, volunteers, reporters, and community members.
  • Identify partnership opportunities that support the mission and growth of the Foundation.
  • Ensure the Foundation follows partnership agreements, memorandums of understanding, verbal commitments, and agency obligations.
  • Speak on behalf of the Foundation when appropriate, including with donors, community partners, media representatives, and the public.

Compliance, Policies & Risk Management

  • Help ensure the Foundation complies with applicable laws, policies, agreements, ethical standards, and nonprofit best practices.
  • Review and update policies and procedures in coordination with the appropriate board committees and staff members.
  • Support compliance related to client services, case management, financial distributions, housing operations, donor expectations, and organizational governance.
  • Promote accountability, documentation, confidentiality, and responsible decision-making across the organization.

Staff Supervision & Development

  • Supervise staff, volunteers, interns, and program team members as assigned.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and staff development.
  • Provide support, guidance, accountability, and motivation to the case management team.
  • Address staff concerns appropriately and escalate board-related or sensitive concerns when needed.

Required Skills & Abilities

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, disability, trauma, poverty, domestic violence, or crisis situations.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional during urgent or complex situations.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to supervise staff and support team accountability.
  • Ability to work with a board of directors, committees, donors, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Basic understanding of nonprofit operations, fundraising, budgeting, compliance, and governance.
  • Ability to read and understand financial documents.
  • Strong ethical judgment and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Ability to work onsite and respond to urgent organizational or client needs when necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least 3 years of nonprofit experience preferred.
  • At least 2 years of case management experience preferred.
  • Experience in housing programs, transitional living, social services, nonprofit leadership, or community-based programs strongly preferred.
  • Experience with fundraising, donor relations, grant support, or board relations is a plus.
