The ideal candidate is highly organized, technically proficient, and capable of collaborating with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Aerial Engineering & Make-Ready Design

  • Apply National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards, client specifications, and federal, state, and local regulations to complete engineering designs, including pole replacements, communication space rearrangements, and joint-use make-ready solutions.
  • Conduct aerial route assessments, pole audits, and attachment feasibility evaluations.
  • Identify and document required make-ready work to ensure clearance compliance and constructability.

Pole Loading & Structural Analysis

  • Perform pole loading and structural analysis using tools such as Katapult, O-Calc Pro, SpidaCalc, or similar software.
  • Evaluate pole capacity, loading conditions, and attachment scenarios.
  • Prepare pole loading calculations, justification reports, and supporting documentation for client and utility review.

Design Documentation & Quality Control

  • Produce detailed, construction-ready design packages, including engineering notes, markups, and exhibits.
  • Analyze field-collected data (imagery, measurements, notes) and accurately update applicable engineering software.
  • Perform internal QA/QC reviews to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to UUS engineering standards and workflows.
  • Maintain accurate design records, redlines, and as-built documentation.

Permitting & Client Coordination

  • Support the pole attachment and permitting process by preparing required engineering documentation and responding to comments or revisions.
  • Work within client systems to produce final deliverables and facilitate approvals.
  • Communicate regularly with clients to determine the most cost-effective and compliant engineering solutions.

Collaboration & Training

  • Collaborate with project managers, fielders, and external partners to resolve discrepancies between field conditions and design.
  • Provide engineering guidance and support during construction or field validation as needed.
  • Assist with training and knowledge-sharing across departments, including field teams.

Project Accountability

  • Manage assigned workload to meet project schedules and budget expectations.
  • Provide timely documentation and support to accounting functions to ensure accurate project tracking and billing.
  • Maintain consistent communication with management regarding status, risks, and deliverables.

Required Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of experience in make-ready engineering, pole design, or utility telecommunications engineering.
  • Proficiency with Katapult, IKE, and/or similar power engineering or field collection platforms.
  • Experience performing pole loading and structural analysis.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD (2D and/or 3D).
  • Experience using GIS software for engineering design.
  • Strong understanding of NESC and joint-use utility requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Work Requirements

  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and in residential, commercial, and industrial environments as needed.
  • Occasional fieldwork and travel throughout the engineering design process.
  • Periodic reporting to the Canonsburg, PA office as required.
