Full job description
Rotating Equipment Repair Inc., based in Sussex, WI, leads the power generation industry in aftermarket pump repair, replacement part manufacturing, and field installation and commissioning since 1982. Specializing in high pressure multi-stage boiler feed pumps, RER provides its customers with high quality engineering services, repairs and parts for centrifugal pumps through the utilization of highly skilled professionals, cutting edge technology, and proven work methodologies. What you will doing as part of our team: Under the direction of the Service and Performance Engineering Manager, the Performance Engineer is responsible for performance testing of pumps in RER’s test loop and at customer sites. The Performance Engineer will also be responsible for effectively leading multi-disciplinary teams of craftsman, comprised of both RER and customer employees, to remove/install high-energy centrifugal pumps and fabricate components needed to facilitate temporary installations.
Performance Testing
- Design temporary installation arrangements for equipment to be tested in RER’s test loop. Create all necessary documentation to allow setup of equipment by others. If required, develop a testing procedure for performance testing.
- Develop written instrumentation plans and testing procedures for performance testing at customer sites.
- Order any RER supplied materials needed to facilitate performance testing in RER’s test loop or at customer sites.
- Work with RER Quality department to ensure calibrated instruments are always available when needed.
- Maintain the shared test loop calendar for reference by other RER personnel.
- Work with RER Field Service Manager to coordinate personnel resources needed for customer site performance testing. Perform on site testing whenever possible.
- Work with Engineering Managers to coordinate personnel resources needed for performance testing in RER’s test loop. Perform testing whenever possible.
- Issue work instructions for manufacture of temporary setup components and setup of equipment in the test loop. Work with customer personnel to facilitate the setup of needed equipment and instrumentation for on-site work. Occasional assistance with setup will be required.
- Act as a technical resource to field service personnel, shop personnel, customers, vendor and other departments to address and resolve inquiries and problems, and/or special conditions as they relate to performance testing.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the area of the test loop.
- Quote performance testing jobs as required.
- Operate lift equipment and cranes to safely move parts and pumps.
- Complete special projects as assigned.
- Complete and maintain all required paperwork, final reports, records, documents, etc.
- May be asked to work overtime at short notice.
Marginal Job Functions: Disassemble/reassemble pumps when needed.
Qualifications:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited institution with 3-5 years' experience.
- A working knowledge of applicable performance testing standards and practices must also be maintained.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, blueprints, customer specifications and governmental regulations.
- Ability to prepare reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Understanding of advanced mathematical techniques such as calculus, differential equations and statistics.
- ·Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Knowledge & proficiency in Microsoft Office products, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD LT software.
- Requires the ability to operate a variety of precision measuring devices, a forklift truck and overhead crane.
