Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Process Engineering Manager leads the Process Engineering team in developing, validating, and improving manufacturing methods for medical products, with strong emphasis on molding processes including Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR). This role drives continuous improvement through scientific molding principles and data-driven problem solving, ensures process documentation and validation activities align with ISO 13485 requirements, and partners cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Application Engineering, and Sales/Marketing. The Process Engineering Manager is also accountable for qualifying processes at headquarters and effectively transferring standardized, capable processes to other plants to support safe, compliant, and scalable production. This role requires a strong bias for action, leaders who not only identify gaps, but who own solutions and proactively improve operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and manage the process engineering staff.
- Lead by example, and drive SQDC philosophy.
- Through deployment of scientific molding principles, develop processes, work instructions, and techniques supporting Installation, Operational and Performance Qualifications (IQ/OQ/PQ) and robust manufacture of specific products.
- Ensure process development, validation, and documentation activities comply with ISO 13485 and regulatory/customer requirements where applicable.
- Lead process qualification at headquarters and drive effective technology transfer to other plants, including standard work, training, and sustainment plans to ensure consistent performance.
- Compile and organize specifications relative to engineering and design.
- Calculate and prepare data to develop cost estimates and quotations for piece parts and required tooling, coordinate information with manufacturing, sales, tooling, quality, and material control departments.
- Prepare and validate data for electronic processing, perform required calculations, and monitor outputs for accuracy.
- Develop processes and production standards which meet quality specifications.
- Provide cross-functional technical support to Manufacturing, Sales, and Quality Assurance to ensure capable, compliant processes and timely issue resolution.
- Build and maintain development plans for Process Engineers; support the training, mentorship, and skill development of Process Technicians in partnership with Manufacturing leadership.
- Analyze and resolve manufacturing and customer issues relating to processing.
- Prepare reports and maintain accurate records, files, and procedural documentation.
- Identify, evaluate, and source vendors and equipment aligned with product, process, and quality requirements.
- Stay current on engineering and processing advancements relevant to the company’s products, and assess applicability to improve safety, quality, and performance.
- Lead and sustain significant continuous improvement (CI) projects to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
Qualifications
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent or relevant experience in process development using scientific principles.
- RJG Master Molder I or II (preferred) or equivalent scientific molding certification (e.g., Paulson ProMolder).
- Command of Statistical Process Control and Design Of Experiments.
- Departmental leadership and a preference to lead through influence, saving authority for rare circumstances.
- Hands on record keeping in IQMS or another significant MRP system coupled with strong document control discipline.
- Strong project management that delivers objectives timely and keeps stakeholders informed.
Pay: $130,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
