There have never been more ways to attract and recruit talent, but the latest Top Sources of Hire Report from SilkRoad shows the top external sources perform far above the rest.

For the fifth year in a row, a deep analysis of the data showed that Indeed greatly outperforms other job search engines and job boards as online sources of hire—58% of external online hires are sourced from Indeed (up from 54% in 2015).

This graph shows SilkRoad data comparing job search engines vs. job boards for external online hires. 58% of external online hires are sourced from Indeed, 10% from CareerBuilder, 7% from unspecified job boards, 7% from Craigslist, 6% from Linkedin, 3% from Monster, 2% from Glassdoor, 1% from Simply Hired and 1% from Seek. Note that this graph does not add up to 100%, since 935 job boards that account for less than 0.5% of interviews or hires have been omitted.

According to SilkRoad, Indeed is also the most successful source of hire among all sources of external recruitment—including offline sources such as job fairs and print job advertisements. Indeed delivers 43% of external hires and nearly 2.5X as many hires as all other external sources combined. Indeed is also the most dominant source of interviews, delivering 52% of external interviews. This is more than 6X as many interviews as CareerBuilder, the next largest external source.

This graph shows the Top 10 External Sources of Hire according to SilkRoad data. Indeed ranks as the number one source, delivering 43% of external hires. This is followed by Agency, CareerBuilder, Campus Recruiting, Unspecified Job Board, Craigslist, LinkedIn, Job Fair, Monster and Print Advertisement, which each deliver less than 10% of external hires.

SilkRoad uses quantitative methods to analyze source data within its applicant tracking system to rank leading sources each year. This research is based on nearly 14 million applications, over 600,000 interviews and over 300,000 hires. The study uses an entire year of automated source tracking data from over 1,200 employers of all sizes to show which recruitment sources are the most effective. Automatic source tracking is the most accurate data available on the performance of hiring sources.

Understanding source data is critical in shaping your recruitment strategy and budget. This knowledge allows you to focus your investments on sources that provide actual hires for your company, rather than just candidates.
