As we have seen throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, nurses are “essential workers” — our society needs them to function and thrive. In the wake of the pandemic, nursing confronts two major hurdles: not enough nurses are on the job, and of those who are, few are satisfied.
An Indeed survey found that, while nurses’ sense of dissatisfaction is very real, there is plenty that healthcare employers can do to attract and retain nurses. In particular, focusing on their nurses’ need for work wellbeing can help close hiring and retention gaps.

This report provides a look at what Indeed and external industry sources reveal about the problem healthcare employers face and what they can do to attract and retain nursing talent through a focus on work wellbeing.
Indeed surveyed 1,400 nurses with the job titles of registered nurse (RN), licensed vocational nurse (LVN) or certified nursing assistant (CNA) to gain insight into their priorities at work. We're taking a closer look at how wellbeing factors into the lives of nurses and healthcare workers and how employers can use this information to attract and retain top nursing talent.
