Add important job details
To get started posting your operations and management jobs, log in to your existing Indeed account or create an account. We’ll guide you through posting or editing your job by asking you step-by-step questions. The details you provide will add up to a comprehensive job post that helps you attract great administrative and business operations candidates.
1. Write an effective job title
Choose a job title that accurately describes the role. For example, “Medical Receptionist” is more descriptive than “Receptionist.” It’s also important to use a job title that job seekers are actually searching for. For instance, “Administrative Assistant Rock Star Needed” is likely not as effective as just “Administrative Assistant.”

Indeed will auto-populate a drop-down menu with suggested titles to choose from. We may also offer smart recommendations for more effective titles. This is based on the most successful job title in your location in the past month that attracted the highest number of applications on Indeed.
For more tips on writing effective job titles, check out How to Choose the Best Job Title for Your Open Role.
2. Include work schedule information
Administrative and business operations jobs often require certain work schedules. When posting your job, select the job type (full-time, part-time, temporary, etc.) and the schedule (Monday to Friday, day shift, no weekends, etc.). Be sure to select all that apply to make your job posting as transparent as possible. For instance, if the job requires occasional weekend work, it’s better to find out if that aligns with a candidate’s requirements and preferences upfront than later on in the hiring process.

3. Add compensation details
Jobs with competitive salaries are 38% more likely to report a hire by day seven, so consider including salary information with your job post. Offering competitive pay can also help your job stand out to people looking for operations and management roles.
When posting your job, Indeed will estimate the pay range based on third-party submissions to Indeed, but you can make adjustments if needed. You can choose to display a pay range, a starting amount, the maximum amount or the exact amount to potential candidates. Indeed may also offer smart compensation recommendations to increase the chance you’ll receive more applicants. This recommendation is based on an analysis of jobs in your location posted on Indeed in the last 12 months.

You can also select the supplemental pay and benefits you offer. Including these details can make your job post more attractive and highlight what makes your company special. Be sure to select all that apply.

Write a standout job description
After adding your job details, it’s time to write a job description. Upload a PDF/DOCX or copy/paste your existing job description into the job description field. You can also write one from scratch or browse our job description examples by title for inspiration.
Need help getting started? Check out our job description builder for popular administrative and business operations jobs. (If you don’t see the role you’re looking for in the list below, you can search for it in the builder.)
Since these are examples, make sure to review and edit the description so it fits your specific role and company. Provide an honest, clear description of the duties, expectations, schedule and skills required. Additionally, include any unique benefits and perks that make your business stand out (e.g., tuition reimbursement, gym membership, pet-friendly workplace).
Set screener questions and deal breakers
Once you’ve confirmed the job details and description, add relevant screener questions and mark the most important requirements as “deal breakers” to help you filter applicants. When a candidate applies to your job, they’ll be required to answer deal breaker questions. If their answers don’t match your minimum criteria, they’ll be automatically filtered out—but you still have the flexibility to see them in your dashboard at any time.
For example, imagine your deal breaker is one year of office management experience. In this case, you’ll only see applicants who say they have at least one year of managing an office in your main Employer Dashboard. All other candidates will appear in your Other candidates tab. This can help you save time by automatically filtering for people who meet your most important criteria. Jobs with screener questions are 40% more likely to result in a hire.
Looking for the right deal breakers for your administrative and business operations job? We’ve compiled a list of deal breakers we recommend including with business operations and management job posts to help you hire quality candidates.
Real-Life Example
Umamicart, an online Asian grocery delivery business, has hired 20+ warehouse and business operations staff through Indeed. The team uses screener questions and deal breakers to automatically confirm key information upfront, like shift availability. According to the company’s co-founder Wendy Wang: “Screening questions have really sped up our process. As a rapidly growing startup, we’re constantly hiring and growing our team and by adding these screening questions it’s really freed up our time.”

Choose relevant operations and management skills tests
Next, you have the option to include skills tests to your job post. Indeed may recommend skills tests based on the job title, but you can also choose from our list of Indeed Assessments. Using Indeed Assessments reduces an employer’s time to hire by 17% on average.
On the Customize your application process section, scroll down and click the Browse questions and tests dropdown and select Skills test. You can select up to two tests for candidates to take after they apply for your job.
Examples of skills tests you might want to include for operations and management jobs include:
- Administrative assistant/receptionist: Tests the candidate’s ability to use scheduling and organizational skills in an office setting.
- Administrative support professional fit: Evaluates the candidate’s tendency to prefer a planned, systematic approach to work, and preference for tasks that require thoroughness and attention to detail.
- Customer service: Tests the candidate’s ability to identify customer issues and avenues of service to address customer needs, and to display a cooperative and empathetic demeanor when dealing with others.
- Filing & organization: Tests the candidate’s skills in arranging information or materials following a set of rules.
- Office manager: Evaluates the candidate’s ability to manage office calendars by setting appointments and cross-referencing availabilities. Also assesses their ability to practice effective financial management by reviewing budgets, spreadsheets and spending projections.
- Scheduling: Tests the candidate’s ability to maintain schedules by setting and updating appointments, agendas and itineraries, and cross-referencing availability.
- Spreadsheets with Microsoft Excel: Tests knowledge of MS Excel features, functions and formulas as well as creating, editing and formatting Excel spreadsheets.
- Typing: Tests the ability to type and transcribe material.
- Working with MS Word documents: Tests their knowledge of MS Word features and functions as well as creating, editing, formatting and saving Word documents.
- Work style: Professionalism: Tests the candidate’s tendency to be accountable, respectful and professional, to act with integrity and to be open to feedback.
Should you sponsor your administrative & operations jobs?
On Indeed, you can either post your job for free* or pay to sponsor your job for better visibility and to unlock other hiring features. Whether or not you should sponsor your jobs depends on your hiring needs.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself to help you make a decision:
- How soon do I need to make a hire? If you need to hire quickly, your job post may benefit from the optimal visibility Sponsored Jobs provide. In fact, Sponsored Jobs are 2.6X times faster to first hire than non-sponsored jobs. You can also add an “Urgently Hiring” label when you sponsor your job, which lets job seekers know you’re looking to hire as quickly as possible. Sponsored Jobs posted directly on Indeed with Urgently Hiring make a hire 5 days faster than non-sponsored jobs.
- Do I need to hire multiple people for the same position? If you’re hiring more than one person for the job opening, you’ll likely need more applications. Sponsoring your jobs can increase the visibility of your job posting to a larger audience, which can attract a higher volume of quality candidates.
- Is the position hard to fill? If the position is hard to fill, sponsoring your job could help you reach more candidates. Additionally, as soon as you pay to post your job on Indeed, you’ll immediately see candidates whose resumes on Indeed match your job description. You can then invite them to apply. This matching feature can help you more proactively reach out to quality applicants instead of waiting for them to find you. Candidates you invite to apply on Indeed are 15.1X more likely to apply to your job than those who only see it in search.
- Is the market for this job competitive? If you’re hiring in an area with a limited pool of candidates or if there are a large number of companies competing for the same talent, sponsorship can be a powerful tool to differentiate your business from the crowd.
Real-Life Example
Andrea Xu, Co-Founder & CEO of Umamicart, says the flexibility and reach she gets through Sponsored Jobs on Indeed has been incredibly valuable when hiring business operations roles. “Especially as a super young startup, sometimes the growth comes very different to what we projected,” explains Andrea. “Being able to turn [Sponsored Jobs] on as a feature and guarantee that we will be able to hit our volume, even if we mis-projected, has been really awesome for our team.”
