What are Indeed employer reviews?
Indeed employer reviews give job seekers an inside look at what it’s like to work at a company. The reviews come from current and former employees who share feedback about their workplace experiences.
When employees submit reviews on Indeed, they can rate their employer in five categories:
- Work-life balance
- Pay and benefits
- Job security and advancement
- Management
- Culture
Indeed uses these reviews to generate an overall company rating, which helps job seekers make informed decisions about potential employers. Employers can respond to reviews to address feedback and showcase their company culture.
In addition to these categories, job seekers might also take into consideration an employer’s Work Wellbeing Score.
The Work Wellbeing Score gives a more detailed view of how employees feel at work and is based on four aspects:
- Happiness: How often employees feel happy at work.
- Purpose: Whether employees find meaning in their work.
- Satisfaction: Employees’ overall level of job satisfaction.
- Stress: How frequently employees feel stressed due to work.
The Work Wellbeing Score appears on your Indeed Company Page once a minimum number of responses (10 for each category) have been collected.

Tips for responding to positive reviews
Responding to positive employer reviews can be a great opportunity to reinforce and highlight what employees love about your company.
When responding to positive reviews:
- Thank the reviewer for their feedback.
- Acknowledge the positive aspects they mentioned.
- Reinforce your company values when relevant.
Here’s an example of a positive review and how you might respond:
Employee review:
“I’ve really enjoyed working here! The team is supportive and the leadership genuinely cares about employee growth. The work-life balance is great, and the benefits? Huge plus.”
Employer response:
“Thank you for sharing your experience! We’re happy to hear that you feel supported and appreciate the work-life balance and benefits. Investing in our employees’ growth and well-being is a top priority, and we’re glad it’s making a difference for you!”
Tips for responding to negative reviews
Negative reviews can be challenging, but it might help to reframe them as opportunities. Your organization’s response to a negative review gives you a chance to show professionalism, address concerns and reinforce company values. It also shows that you listen and care about your employees’ experiences.
When responding to negative reviews:
- Keep it professional and avoid defensive language.
- Acknowledge concerns and, if possible, provide helpful information.
- Encourage further discussion offline if needed.
Here’s an example of a negative review and how you might respond:
Employee review:
“Management doesn’t communicate well. It feels like employees are left in the dark about important decisions, which makes it difficult to feel like a valued team member.”
Employer response:
“Thank you for sharing your experience. We understand that clear communication is essential, and we’re always working to improve how we keep employees informed. If you’d like to provide more details, we’d love to hear your thoughts. Your feedback helps us create a better workplace for everyone.”
This response stays professional, acknowledges the concern and invites further discussion without being defensive.
Responses are visible to everyone, not just the person who left the review. So, whether a review is positive or negative, thank the reviewers and keep responses professional. Your responses reflect your company’s values and culture, not only to the reviewer but also to potential job seekers.
Best practices for managing reviews on Indeed
Indeed employer reviews can offer real insights that help leadership improve your organization. Here are some best practices for managing company reviews effectively.
Monitor reviews regularly
Monitoring reviews regularly can help your company track employee sentiment and learn how employees feel in their own words. Consider dedicating weekly time to checking and responding to reviews.
Tip: If you’ve claimed your Indeed Company Page, you’ll get a weekly digest of the latest reviews and Q&As for your organization. This weekly update can help you check in regularly and respond to reviews in a timely manner.
Promote honest employee feedback
Consider encouraging your current employees to leave honest reviews about your company. Provide employees with the link to your Indeed Company Page and explain how to leave a review.
Communicate that their reviews might not only influence job seekers’ perception of your brand but also contribute to actual workplace improvements. When employees understand how reviews might change their work experience, they may be more likely to participate.
By promoting honest feedback, you can gain insights into what your employees value and how you can improve.
Identify patterns and trends
Reviews can reveal recurring themes and insights into your company’s work culture. Analyzed over time, these trends can help leadership understand what employees value and where challenges exist.
By actively identifying these patterns, you can use them to refine workplace policies and improve employees’ overall experience.
You can even use reviews to improve job descriptions. For instance, if several reviews mention “lack of clarity on responsibilities” or “constantly changing priorities,” it may signal a need for more detailed job descriptions.
If positive reviews mention “flexible hours” or “collaborative team environment,” emphasizing those aspects in your job description can help attract candidates who value those things.
Act on feedback to drive change
Responding to reviews is a great start, but implementing meaningful change in the workplace requires action. After monitoring reviews and identifying trends, you might use the information you gather to create or revise policies that address those trends.
For example, if multiple employees mention a lack of work-life balance in their reviews, you could implement flexible scheduling or improve time-off policies to help address this concern.
Consider creating an action plan and sharing it with your current employees. Showing that management has listened and outlined specific ways to address workplace concerns can help build trust with them.
